I believe one of the taller towers is the Adolphos Hotel, can't quite figure out where the camera operator was set up to shoot this.

What I find enteresting are the number of houses that were in what we consider the center of these cities just 80-90 years ago, shows how young the cities really were. There were a couple other shots of Dallas from 1910 on the site but they were so smoked out that the pics were not that clear to see. A lot of smoke stacks spewing soot and ash over the cities back then, you can see few electric poles in some of the shots.
As to the building being the Adolphus Hotel, it is. To try to get oriented on the Dallas pics the building that two of these pics were shot from would be about where the present day Farmers Market is or to the east a bit. The old Beau Arts City Hall on Main is visible on the far right of the third Dallas pic (about under the stamp at the top of the pic by the edge) so the shot is looking north by northwest and the old County Courthouse on the left is lost in the haze. This would be the first and third pics. The Second pic may be showing the roof of the building that the other pics were shot from-the large multistory building that is in the right of the picture-surrounded by houses. The second pic would have been taken from about where City Hall is now. | | | |

The 1910 San francisco was just a few years after the Earthquake, and it shows.
My Hometown of Huntington W.Va is there as well as my Mom's, Harrisburg, Pa! | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
