Photo of my wrecked car - 11-22-2006, 12:44 AM

Came across this quite by accident this evening. It’s the photo my husband took a couple days after my accident in July. I've pretty much avoided looking at it, but stumbled across accidently this evening. I was loading MP3's from his phone onto my phone to listen to in the morning before my surgery and the file was still on his memory card. It really got to me again when I saw this. I've had a really, really hard time looking at it. I haven't shown the picture to anyone. Thought maybe it would help to finally share it and get it off my chest, so to speak.

The surgery in the morning (#5 and counting) is to fix my left knee. We’ve been waiting until my right leg was stronger before working on my left. My right leg is doing really well at this point, now to get the left knee fixed. The pain has gotten really, really bad over the last couple of weeks. Hopefully this will take care of it. I'll still have one more surgery to go probably in February.

And please, this is not meant for c/c. This was a photo my husband took on his camera phone while I was still in the hospital.

Best wishes for a successful and rapid recovery from the surgery. Glad to hear the right knee is doing good! I can see why you wouldn't want to look at the wrecked car. What a mess! I can't even tell what it was.

I hope posting this helps in some way to get it in the past so you can move on.

Take good care!

Wow, thats just BAD! I'm thinking its a honda accord but I cant even really tell! I really hope you feel better and that your surgery is a success, I wouldn't wish 6 surgeries on anyone! I know you said no c/c on the picture, but thats the best quality cameraphone pic I've ever seen...mine always look like trash!

Hope all goes well. It's good that you're able to come away from a wreck like that looks, in the shape you have. Wishing you a speedy recovery back to your old former self!

Hey Wendy... If you can get yourself to associate the picture of the car with being thankful that everyone that was in the car is still here to see the picture it might help.

When I look at the pictures of my destroyed motorcycle I (1) miss riding it and (2) am thankful that my daughter now enjoys photography with me instead of riding my bike with me. (I almost took her with me that day and I don't think she would have been able to get off as fast as I did)

Thanks, guys. Yes, it was a Honda Accord, and yes we were INCREDIBLY lucky to make it all out alive. All the paramedics, police, etc, told me normally they would not expect someone to make it out of a wreck that bad in as good shape as I did, if they made it out at all.

Anyway, I am out of surgery and already home. It was a very early morning. Knee's sore, I'm feeling a bit loopy, but things went well. I'll be on crutches for a few days and start some intensive physical therapy in a week or so after a bit of the swelling goes down. The cartilage in my knee was in much worse shape than he expected. He told me I can not kneel or squat at all anymore to take photos, pretty much forever. I really like to get those angles, but he said I have to figure out something different because I don't have much cartilage left and it's very very bad for me knees to kneel or squat like that.

Chris is on his way home with vicodin. Think I'll take that and then go to bed. Nighty night!

Wow. Glad you are at least mostly okay, even with the knee problems. Perhaps you can discover a new approach to low angle photography, with a camera, a monopod and a remote release. Enjoy the vicodin & have a great thanksgiving. Sounds like you have a lot to be thankful for this year.
