I jumped into DSLR world with the start of shooting and selling photos of sporting events (check out
www.mygamepic.com). I had a pretty strange chain of events happen to me monday afternoon. I'm home in Philly for the holidays and on Monday afternoon I was on my way out to drop some stuff off to a friend but there weren't any cars here so I decided to walk out and get some food from on Temple Univ's campus (its 4 blocks away). Well on the way back I stopped by the basketball arena and noticed that there was a basketball game about to start, so I was just curious to see how much tickets were running. Well as i'm standin in line this guy approaches and asks if I'd like a ticket to the TU/GA Tech game...I'm like HELL YEAH! Turns out to be a front row ticket right behind temple's bench,so I ran home and grabbed my D50.
I walked passed the credentials booth on my way in and saw a stack of press passes. After I got inside I noticed that there were only 4 photographers shooting, so I went back to the credentials booth and sweet talked the lady into giving me a media pass and I got to sit sideline at the game and take pics. All this to say that I was trying to find a way to justify being "home on business" and possibly write off the money I spent flying home and VOILA!!!
...AND I was on ESPN, & got to rub shoulders with the big boys from the phila. Inquirer. OK, so i've bored the sh!t outta you, but my night (to me) was pretty coincidental. Guess I forgot to mention that this lady breaks out in a prayer for me in the middle of a baseball game 3 weeks ago that I was shooting. She blessed my business...I've had over $300 in sales since then, and found 2 guys who want to hire me to shoot events that they run.

Keep in mind that they were shot with a VERY cheap (I'm embarrassed to say) Quantaray 70-300 f4-5.6. I've got a Nikkor 80-200 f2.8 on my wish list for christmas...until then it's life in the cheap lane for me.
