Anyone get a Wii or PS3? - 11-28-2006, 07:07 AM

I was lucky enough to get a Wii on launch day (Midnight sale at Walmart) and only had to stand in line for about 3.5hrs. I must say, I love the new Zelda and the whole motion capture control is a hoot. Although instead of Nintendo thumb, I think I'm getting Nintendo elbow. I love being a 30 year old kid!

2nd son got a Wii. he stood in a Best Buy line from 4pm to midnight. he said that they issued tickets for 100 and he and his friend got 96 and 97.

he's in San Francisco, so all I see of it is $$$ leaving the bank account.

he likes it, but he better get his college work done first!!!!!

I love being a dad!

I haven't really been able to grasp the concept of the Wii...

I think the guys at Penny Arcade described it best

I think the Wii really is the ultimate party machine. If you crack out Rayman or Wii sports with some friends it’s just instant fun. It really hasn’t been able to occupy much of my solo gaming time though. I’m not sure if that will change but for right now it’s just something that gets broken out when we have company. Sort of like twister or Trivial Pursuit. Will it collect dust like those other games in between family gatherings and game nights with our friends? I guess we’ll see.
The PS3 just doesn't hold my interest because it's essentially an Xbox 360 a year too late. I've had my Xbox 360 since launch day, and I still love it to death. Despite having to send it back for repairs.... :(

If anyone has a 360 look me up!

I sorta agree with the quote, it does turn into a good time with a bunch of people, but I have to say Zelda provides great solo play. Also the Wii Sports that's included with the system is great fun and the Golf game alone would be worth buying separately. It's almost like playing with one of those swing analyzers.

The biggest problem is that there aren't that many titles available yet using Wii control so I can't make a full judgement on the system until sometime next year. The Wii has a lot of potential, but we'll see if some of the 3rd party companies jump on the motion capture control.

Steve, how accurate is the controller? I think it sounds like tons of fun, but it seems like things like that only work about half of the time.

I think you'll be OK, they have a thin candy shell. I'm surprised you didn't know that.

Nintendo has had problems with 3rd party contributors on their past systems. If Wii doesn't do well, then I'm afraid that Nintendo will be destined to make only hand helds. It's sad too, I love Nintendo, but they have really shot themselves in the foot the last few times. This is a great innovation though.

Accuracy is good, the controller uses Bluetooth as it's connectivity technology and the "sensor bar" does nothing more than provided a visible cue to the controller where the TV screen is.

All in all, the controll is fine (pretty accurate and precise).

I got a wii... I went for the pre-order

I love mine to death

I now have excite truck, zelda, red steel, call of duty 3 and Trauma Center: Second Opinion.

All of the games are a ton of fun. Trauma Center can be quite addicting, after I got it I played it for a several hours straight.

I really want to try and get a Wii for my hubby for Christmas, but I doubt that will happen. Why do these consoles always have supply issues??

Also BOOOO on the Xbox 360. Our is sitting useless on the dining room table waiting for a box from Microsoft. Thankfully they recognize their first batch had issues, but it still sucks to be without a system for 2 weeks.

I have Zelda and Ultimate Alliance for the Wii and will be getting Rayman and Elebits by xmas. That should hold me over until the "Real" games start rolling out.

Hey Swanny, how do you like Excite Truck. I'd like a racing game, but want one with online play enabled. Excite Truck may hold me over until some of the better racers are available.

Oh, I know I'm a geek and all, but I can't wait to yield a light saber using the wiimote. It'll happen..oh yes, it will happen.

Yep, I'm sending mine in for a 2nd time.

The first time they made me pay for my repairs but I got a check in the mail the other day refunding my repair charges stating that they have found a design flaw.

I'm assuming my refurb has the same design flaw, so hopefully 3rd time is the charm.

It sucks, but it's worth it. The games are just way way to much fun.

Right now the biggest kick is Rainbow Six Vegas. I play with a lot of friends and family and you can use the Xbox Vision camera to map your face onto your Multiplayer Character. It's creepy how good the models look, and just makes playing it that much more fun.

Excite Truck is a lot of fun. It's not great though and it is much better if you have someone to play against. But it keeps me entertained for a good hour when I play by myself. Might want to check out Need for Speed: Carbon. I heard it is good, but if you want a game to play with others, I bet excite truck is easier to get a hang of then NFS.

My boys want a Wii but we just can't find one locally so I've convinced them to wait for their birthdays (2 in January, 1 in February) and I'll try to get them one then. Do you guys think the Wii is OK for kids as young as 7, 8, and 13? What games would you suggest?

Given Nintendo's history, I'm sure you'll find plenty of games that are good for your kiddos. They are great at making fun games that don't have to involve blood, guts or cussing.
