That's almost like a Nikon vs Canon issue....it really depends on your preferences. Sirrius has Pro Football and Howard Stern, XM has Pro baseball and College Football. both have a fair amount of music, comedy, and talk stations, but if there are some specific artists, talk show hosts, or things like that - that he is interested, see which one carries it before buying...
I have had XM for about 2 years and have been happy and about the only "complaint" is that they don't carry pro football

I love Opie and Anthony on my XM, my parents have Sirius in their cars and, I don't know, I can't get into it. But it's like Nathan said, it's like Canon and Nikon... Who has the better deal right now?

I'm happy with XM, got it in my car and my wifes car. I haven't listened to FM or Am since the day it was installed (2nd day I owned the car)

I was thinking about getting it for my wife. the radio in her car is Sirrius compatible so I was thinking about that. but I wanted it to be portable so she could listen to it in the house or car, or when we go on trips.

I am a happy XM subscriber, I listen to it during the day in my office via the interent, it does not have all the channels on the net but still a nice feature!

I have had mine for 2 years also.

You won't get that with Sirius yet as far as I know .. all their "portable" units have to be docked to listen to live broadcasts, XM has both true portable units and units like the Sirius ones that have to be docked for live broadcast.

I use to have both and settled on XM. For the longest time and Sirius's DJ's were more reserved, they played edited songs while XM played full versions/unedited songs. Also I like the XM DJ's a lot better. Another thing that bugged me the 2 years I had Sirius was that the songs begin to sound the same, for example on the 80's channels they only played the major hits for that decade. But on XM i heard songs that I had forgotten about, so I think XM plays a wider variety of songs instead of just the hits. But again it is like a Canon vs Nikon and PC vs Mac debate. But my experience comes from having both for 2+ years a piece.

my moms xm cuts out a lot more than my sirius. xm seems to have a lot of edited stuff. i can log into my sirius account online and listen to it on my computer, my sirius is portable so i can put it in the car, listen to it in the house, on my boat, or lately in my deer blind. for me personally i prefer sirius's music selection over xm times about 10. but like someone said this is kinda like a cannon/nikon debate.

on xm, you have to go to the stations labled XL for the unedited versions of the songs( if it's language you're talking about...)

I have XM but am considering switching because XM doesn't have Big 12 football. Other than that I have been happy with XM.

we've got siris (for football). Had it 2 years now. Never had a problem, no drop out, heck, we've not had to pay for it for a year now ;)

And you can get all the channels online also.

and you can get portable units for sirius too. Now back in the days, sirius was better on the road, and xm was better in the city. 2 years ago we noticed that it wasn't that good in the city, but now with the better fm transmitters out there you can find an empty band that you can pick it up well.

if it was in the car, all the channels should have been there. the only itme the XL channels are not there is if they were blocked. If you scan from channel one, you should see all the list.
here is their list:
