My printer is dead, I need to print ...........

Where can i print 8x11 black and white around the Galleria Area?
Do you know how much will it be each?
You think it's worth it to get another printer?
I just need to print around 20 pics.

Thanks guys

Hmm, I'm not sure I have ever heard of anyone printing 8 1/2 x 11 photos. Sorry, I can't suggest a place. Maybe some place offers 8x12 and can trim it for you. I personally would look for a Wolf or Ritz Camera around if no one else knows a different place in the area and it needs to be local.

A home printer is not cost-effective the way I use it, but it sure is convenient.

Mpix!

Yeah, mpix.com should do a good job. Format your file to 8x12 leaving a 1-inch margin on the side. Trim when they arrive. My paper cutter does a fine job on anything other than a tiny sliver trim. If you're off a little, it's tough to fix. That's actually why I ordered 8x10 photo paper not 8 1/2 x 11 paper for my printer even though it costs the same.

you're right suzi, having a home printer is not cost efficient, it's just convenient.

You might make sure that you pics are 8 bits and not 16. I don't think MPIX handles 16 bit RGB color.

There's a few threads on that. I think the only argument that can be made is it might be more cost efficient if you're making a lot of larger prints (11x14 and higher).

As for the garbled images, I'd do what John says.... Are they jpg or tiff? I don't think jpg supports 8 bit. At least, in PSE if I have not converted to 8 bit it gives me jpf as an option, not jpg. I've always uploaded jpg at quality 10 and they turn out fine.

johnastovall 11-30-2006 12:38 PM

jpeg is only 8bit.

Yes. I don't think we know yet what format was used on the upload. I've never had trouble with JPG and I've never tried anything else, either....
