Tis the season for flat panel television shopping - 12-01-2006, 10:24 AM

Since I don't watch much TV I'll probably save my dinero for camera equipment but on the off chance that I decide to dive off into HD / flat panel televisions I thought that I would see if anyone here is keeping up with the technological advancements. The last thing that I heard people going ga-ga over was O.L.E.D. technology (Organic LED's).

LCD or Plasma? One doesn't last very long if I remember right...

I would NEVER recommend a Plasma, they get nasty burn in that is hard to "fix" AND are more expensive.

I have not heard of the O.L.E.D, but did hear something about using lasers, but the laser LCD wont be out until about 2008 or so. My wife is the TV watcher in our house and we have plans to buy a huge screen LCD next year (50 inch or bigger). I heard LCD prices will start dropping after the first of the year in early 2007.

The latest plasmas are pretty cool. But the future goes with LCD TV's. So I say under 46" LCD over 46" Plasma. LCD's have good refresh and great colors, but their blacks suck. Unless you have some kind of black booster like samsung's LCD. OLED tv's will not be around for a long, long, long time.

An "upgrade" for me would be getting a 24" CRT TV.
