Diabetes and Apple Cider Vinager/Vitamin E - 12-12-2006, 10:11 PM

Anyone on the forum a diabetic and if so have you tried apple cider vinager with a vitamin e pill? i have a friend who was recently diagnosed (i've been diagnosed with type 2 since 1999) and he had one of his providers who is into natural alternative medications tell him about this combo....well I tried it today and within 2 hours my levels went from 225 (yes I know that's too too too high but for me it's actually ALOT better than it's been over the last couple of months---gotta love STRESS ) down to 160 - i'm not a doctor, not advocating alternative meds/treatments, i just want to know if anyone else has experienced this?? it seems to work - nasty as H-E-Double Hockey Sticks - - but it seems to work --- not gonna replace my shots but i'm gonna try this for a few days and see what happens

I've not heard of this particular natural alternative, but that's not to say there isn't some truth in it. I'll do some research and get back with you.

One thing I want to caution you with, is that dumping acid (acetic acid=vinegar) into your body may not have desirable effects as keto-acidosis is always a concern with tough to manage cases of diabetes....

After my grandmother died we sold her small home to a guy from Europe and he swore about the health benefits of drinking Apple Cider Vinegar, he drank it all the time, and he seemed to be in relatively good health. He also ate dried seaweed sheets (which are high in iodine I believe).

How much of your lovely drink did you consume? Wonder if you could add a shot of Bourbon to it?

that's one thing i was looking into before trying it - made sure to dilute it - i don't take it (diabetes) lightly --- diabetes has been my "beast of burden" for a couple of years - i usually do good in keeping it under control but lately there have been some things that have just pushed my numbers up and i wanna get them back down - docs have increased my insulin dosage and i've increased my exercise routine but still numbers suck .... well not all the time, but more often than not lately

I wonder if that is why "Pickle Juice" has become so popular with atheletes? Heck pickle juice is basically salt, vinegar and some trace vitamins from the cucumbers, now it is not apple cider vinegar which is different but who knows?
Also I've heard that there are vast differences in Apple Cider Vinegars out on the market and some are about just good enough to strip paint while others are more palatable. Heck the stuff probably couldn't do much harm to a person.

goggle "apple cider benefits" and you'll find all kinds of things to read. My Dad drank it with water and said it helped a lot of his aches and pains, etc..

Went to Whole Foods a couple days ago and bought some of their brand and tried it this morning. Actually I found just drinking it straight then following with a glass of water was the way to go, yeah it is a bit of a interesting taste but the water washes it off your taste buds pretty quickly.

Now cask aged Balsamic Vinegar is COOL!

I have Type 1 for 35 years now and was reading something about that a few weeks ago. I may have to give it a try. Also cinnamon it helps your body metabolise fats and sugars more rapidly. But you have to eat it daily to see a benifit. It works I eat toast with equal and alot of cinnamon every morning. My A1C runs at about 6.1.... I am also on a insulin pump too and man the pump rules!!!!!!

only did it a couple of times - in moderation since 12/12 - has actually helped reduce sugar levels - and i honestly feel better - again, i'm not a doctor and this is not an endorsement - but it's working for me so far

interesting they mentioned crohns in that article - i've had that since i was 16...those damn auto-immune disorders! oh - forgot to mention...i know this is a thread about diabetes, but since i'm here, and mentioned the crohns...they are now or have now treated 10 people with stem cell transplants - and all 10 have been "cured" so to speak...treatment like this is currently running $100k...

good luck with the vinegar guys

Well the first time that you drink the stuff it is WOW that is some powerful liquid (reminds me very much of the flavor of the Lays Vinegar flavored Potatoe chips) but after about the 5th sip it isn't that bothersome, as least to me. I'm trying to get into the habit that everytime I pass the bottle-setting on the counter- a sip is taken so that by the end of a day I may have had 1/4 to 1/2 oz or so. That way a 16 oz bottle will last for about a month. I'm not a confirmed diabetic and it does not really run in the family (I had an Uncle that had it but he became so after age 82) but I did have an incident where I was asked if I was diabetic so drinking the stuff ain't going to hurt and just could help. That article was interesting about the idea of its origination and how they have found a type of cure but there has been little to nothing on our news. I know that South West Medical center in Dallas has people trying to cure the problem.

Don't know if it's okay for diabetes, but if you mix it in orange juice it goes down a lot easier.
