ebay account hijacked - 12-14-2006, 01:31 PM

my ebay account has been hijacked and someone created 37 listings to sell some purses.

I have contacted ebay, but hope they will jump on this right away. I got a tone of emails confirming the listings.

so I manually logged onto ebay and sure enough my account has 37 new listings.

So they basically stole your login?

Here's to hoping that Ebay will come down hard and fast on the hijacker.

I've heard of that happening alot lately they are saying one reason is people going to ebay.com by favorites or typing it in, the problem is if you have spyware on your pc such as ebay spyware that your not aware of the site may look like ebay.com but it really isn't.

So they are suggesting downloading the ebay toolbar that way you always know your at the right location.

Goodluck with getting all that straightened out.

I contated Ebay and they locked my account so they could delete all the false listings some made on my account.

luckily I caught this when it happened this morning and was able to shut it down. I checked my paypal account as well and that is good. No activity for a very long time, and its all my activity.

I usually do a good job at scanning my PC with all the usualy tools (avg, Spybot, Ad-aware), but with so many new critters out there I decided to use a few other scanners and such (pandascan, bitdefender and another one I forgot the name of). I only use trusted programs so I feel my system is clean and no bugs. I also stay away from those "iffy" sites that are harmfull.

Unhappy eBay A Huge Scamming Target ?? - 12-14-2006, 10:27 PM

Sorry this happened.

Six years ago, hardly any problems with eBay -- even after hundreds of transactions, both buying and selling. Now, it seems it's become a huge bullseye for scammers. I don't know if eBay Security can keep up; I'm dubious.

My last two transactions have had serious problems; ones ordinary prudence could not avoid. For example, I was high bidder on a camera last week with about eight separate bidders below me. Then, somehow without the seller's knowledge, all these bidders were erased, and then the scammer sent emails to all of us offering the same camera through the same listing at a considerably lower price--but with response to a different email addy.

Needless to say, I did not take the bait; instead contacted the seller and eBay Security. But, I'm growing increasingly wary of eBay transactions. It's a real shame is what it is; a damn shame.

I was selling a bunch of camera equipment on eBay this past week and got a message from a potential buyer asking me to confirm that the lens in my auction was the same lens being listed in another auction. The link required a login and looked just like the eBay site but when I checked the address I saw it was from someplace else. So I wrote back and said, "Nice try ya scamtard!" Grrr >_<

That happened to me a few months ago. I caught it within a 1 min of posting, b/c it was a "too good to be true auction" and the guy was asking me about shipping. Thank God!

Ebay has become heavily loaded with slimey sellers and buyers. Seems like its easier to get a bad person lately, whether buying or selling...maybe I just have bad luck.

BE SO GLAD YOU CAUGHT IT!

OS X and Linux will have their day with viruses, they just not have taken the time to get serious about doing it. once they get bored with Windows based bugs, you guys are next.

yes I know OS X and Linux are better and way more secure, but they are not by any means totally immune.
