Angry Work shut down my TPF - 12-15-2006, 02:00 AM

The company I work for put the Kaybash on all "fun" websites, and now I can't access the forum from work. This means I'm going to actually have to get back to work. But I fully believe in the Dilbert principle. I've always worked lots of extra hours, so I never worried about the small amount of time I goof around each day on the forum. But since the company wants to play it this way, it looks like 40 and out for me from now on (maybe not 40, but a lot less than before).

Ain't they a pain in the backside? Also they may say that you are logged into TPF 5 hours a day but heck that could just be a window open in the background and you may glance at the posts page for a minute during down time over a several hour period.

(I think there are RSS feeds here that you can pick up on a PDA!)

well....I could point you in the direction of bybassing that pesky setting on the pc since they more than likely did it locally with filters. However, I don't kow if you have access, and it's not a good idea to bypass something the IT department set up. I always just bring my laptop and hook up......since it's my personal pc, the settings don't effect it......just what I do.

Websense is what they use at my work to block fun/non-work sites.

Luckily I got an exception and can go to TPF, since I claim I use it (and it's true) to communicate with photogs that I might need for help in some assignments.

Also since I do Internet research and profiles in some of my background reports, I need access to just about anything. So the only thing blocked now is Porn, Gambling, and Games, and I can get specific sites unblocked for a reason (i.e. possible profile match in a google search).

But companies do have a right to make you work for your money instead of goofing off.

The Websense blocker does have one neat thing - they allow you to use some "personal time" on many blocked sites (like forums, but not porn), that is set by your IT admin. In our company it's 60 minutes. So most staff can goof off for 60 minutes a day on the net.

My buddy gets around his employers filters with gotomypic.com. He accesses his home computer from work and then uses it to go to the sites he wants to visit. Just a thought.

Works here for Websense (for now).
I tested it with Model Mayhem, which is websense blocked as a Nudity site.

I'm sure Websense will just start blocking HMA's site and sisters soon, just like they eventually did with tons of other cloaking sites.
They even block Google Cache and Translations of many sites.

Hint: a fix that somtimes work is to use Google's translation service. Just translate from English to English.

I'd like to know a way to keep my company from knowing I'm even on the internet. I don't know if that's even possible, but I can dream right?

Bring your own laptop and hope for a Wifi connection
I could not get anything in my old office, but last month they moved me from the 6th floor interior to the 11th floor window and now I have 3 signals I can hook into (a pub, a restaurant, and hotel).
