Something rotten in Denmark? Something just don't pass the smell test.

I bid on a Kodak DSLR-N just so that I could follow the camera on my account, so far my lowball early bids have all been exceeded and left in the dust. Now all of a sudden I get a privat e-mail from a seller saying that the winning buyer has backed out and that I can have the camera as a Second Chance offer (I did not get an official 2nd chance offer through Ebay). Now my bid was at about 1/3 of the price that the equipment sells for all the time which says something stinks.

I wrote him back that I could not send the Paypal $ till Friday *(which is true) and that the amount as to what my last bid was.
This was his original E-mail:
Hello,

Can you please tell me if you are still interested in my item from eBay ?
You placed a bid on it. Item number: 130055718158. I need to sell it asap and the winning bidder said that he is not interested anymore.So i am willing to sell it to you for your last bid price:US $505.00.

So like I mentioned above I replied and said that I would pay shipping and not to ship it until after Christmas. So now I get this email:

If it's not an official Ebay Second Chance offer it's virtually 100% guaranteed to be scam.

this is a very common scamer statement, you can ask him where the item is and chances are its probably in Indiana per the item lister.

Although I've never received any "Second Chance Offer," legitimate or otherwise, I've read that this type of email is a fairly common "phishing" tactic for scammers. There's so much of this going on now that IMO with any hint, it's not worth the trouble.

he's been on ebay for 6 years, yet has no feedback meaning he's never bought or sold. My guess is this is a hacked account that the original owner has lost interest in long ago.

Oh no! I answered one of those and now I get a zillion spam emails a day. Blocking each and every sender does no good. I'm such a klutz. And gullible. I now get an email about once a month that some guy in PA just charged a Dell computer to my account. That's bogus too.
You don't have to bid to watch something. Just click "Watch this item" and it goes to My ebay

The fact that he provides you a link to click on is another sign of a scam.

If you weren't high bidder, presumably there would be other bidders in-between that would have been contacted first?

Is it possible to contact the low bidder directly to see what happened with them?
