Mpix vs. EZPrints? - 12-19-2006, 10:32 PM

I notice that a lot of people on this forum use, and really like Mpix/Millers for print fulfillment.

Does anyone know how they compare to Ezprints.com in terms of quality?

I've been using ezprints.com for my prints and I'm pretty happy with the quality of the print and paper they use. I've heard from some that their prints come out too dark, this has not been my experience. So when I ask them about whether or not they used ezprint's colorspace profile for final processing I get a blank stare... so most likely that's the cause of the variance in their images. One other thing that I like about ezprints is they also offer 6" or 12" pano prints, which is important to me because many of my images are panos that are non-standard sizes.

As a side note, Ezprints is the print service that serves smugmug.com and deviantart.com (and some others that I can't remember right now).

ezprints will roll anything over 8x10 in size. Mpix will ship anything you order flat.

That alone is worth the price of admission for mpix/millers.

This may be something I should know, but what kind of negative effect does rolling have on a print?

I haven't tried any other printers, but I definitely like Mpix. The quality is great and turnaround time is quick. (I just need to tweak my sharpening skills so I can get the most out of the service. A lot of my prints are a little too soft IMO, which is my fault.)

So, does anyone here use WHCC? I used to be a big fan of Mpix/Millers, but they kind of pissed me off, so I'm thinking of switching to WHCC. I've never heard of ezprints.

Well, for starters, it needs to be flattened before you can use it, mount it, or present it to a customer.... and I don't care how careful you are when flattening it again, it never seems to lose that tendency to roll itself up again.

I have used them exclusively for a while now. I am a big fan.

Many people haven't heard of them. They seem to prefer to do business with 'businesses' rather than individuals. But their product selection and prices are excellent and very competitive. Some of the companies that use them for print fulfillment are:

- printroom.com
- smugmug.com
- morephotos.com
- mycapture.com
- Photoreflect.com
- deviantart.com

I'd like to thank everyone for the feedback provided so far. I will have to buy some sample prints from each of the services mentioned here. I guess it comes down to whether or not I'm willing to 'deal' with the curvature caused by rolling the print. WHCC actually looks like a great solution.

I'll probably still be married to ezprints for panoramic printing though. And I don't really see a way, other than mounting, to prevent the rolling of a 96"x12" print. (size of my widest panos)

I use ezprints for panos.
Mpix does not have any good pano sizes(at least not that I can find on their site)

Yeah, they're the only print fulfillment service that I've found that offers them. Does anyone else know of any other print services that offer panoramic printing?

I did find this site a while back http://www.panoptics.co.uk/products-...ting/index.php. I've never contacted them regarding their costs though. Because they're 'contact for quote' I have a feeling their costs won't be in line with what I'm willing to spend. But they do look like a good resource if I ever need a 'huge' print (larger than 12" height).

I've been using EZprints going on two years, and I am very pleased with their product!

IMO...their prices & variety of sizes are the two biggest factors why I like them so much.

I used ezprints for a while. They screwed up an order in a 20x30 print (printed a large red line across it, possibly due to a hair or something in the process) and charged me for the extra shipping (~$10) to replace their error. Didn't catch it in their quality control (if they have any?) Didn't respond to my requests for a refund or some sort of credit.

Haven't used them since and wouldn't recommend them as a result.

That's a first. Sorry to hear about that incident.

I had a customer call me and say her 16x20 had frayed edges. We called up EZprints and they shipped another one to her..no questions asked...no shipping charged.

Gonna agree with Brad. I love the fact that MPIX doesn't roll stuff up. They rock.
