I hope all our new auslanders to Texas have adopted the custom of Black Eyed Peas for luck on New Years Day.

I fixed a pot of them a few days ago and have ate so many the past few days that I think I am too sick of them to eat any today. And as much bad luck as I have I prob won't have good luck. Unless you consider that maybe I would have a little less bad luck as being good luck.

Yep! I just got back from my parents house where we had a new years day lunch. The dogs even had a little peas mushed into their kibble!

None for me, thank you. I don't care for them, and I don't believe in luck. :-)

Then you must leave the state and go be with the pagans of the north and live on Lutefisk.

It is a shame to see the standards of A&M have fallen so low they would let a non black eyed pea eater in. Just hasn't been the same since Rudder died and it was slipping under him.

Native Texan here and I don't eat em either... They smell and taste like dirt. I'll take my chances on the "luck" thing.

Yep, had mine, too many, but I guess that means I will have lots of good luck this year. I think I was just so glad not to be eating anymore Indian food, I went to town on the blackeyed peas (I love Indian food, but after shooting an Indian wedding for 4 days, it gets a bit old when you have it for breakfast, lunch and dinner...LOL!).

Sure do. I like a good catfish, but BEPs aren't for everyone. :-)

Black eyed peas don't taste that good on their own, but mix in some rice, smoked sausage, and some Cajun spices and you're talking about some good stuff. I just had them that way with cooked cabbage and a few dashes of Tabasco.

A foreigner.

[German Ausländer, from Ausland, foreign country : aus-, away (from Middle High German ūz-, from Old High German, from ūz, out, away) + Land,
