i'm already not a big fan of my cell phone and avoid talking to friends and family on it as much as possible... but i downloaded it anyway.

I use it. Its a great way for me to make calls overseas. When I use it to have my computer call another Skype user's computer, the call is free. A call using Skype to call a regular phone is very cheap. For instance, I used Skype to call and American friend of mine in Viet Nam - - free. I also used it to call a Vietnamese friend of mine on his cell phone - cost me 3 cents a minute.

i'm on skype almost daily - i video chat with my daughter at college...and with another photographer in new hampshire. we both work at home alone in the mornings, and sometimes it just keeps us company..

I use it for work stuff with international counterparts. For Christmas I gave my sister and parents web cams so they can see the grand kids more frequently, we live quite scattered and typically only visit once a year.

Skype is awesome! I use it to call the U.S. when I'm in South America .02 cents a minute verses $1.00 per minute rocks. I have a usb flash phone.

I pay for skype. I have a skype-in account that's a real phone number directed to my desktop... wherever I'm logged in. So I can be sitting at my desk and log in to get my voicemail and receive calls, or use my laptop from whatever hotel I'm staying, and I have the same number. There are no per-minute fees on skype-in, if someone calls me, I don't pay. Well I pay about $38 a year for it.

I also have a skype-out account. I paid $15 and that covers me for 2007. Calls to the US and canada are now free for me, no limit to the minutes. I can still pay per-minute to calls outside of the US and canada for the ridiculously low rates, or get it free if the other end is on skype as well.

I do business with people in England and Australia regularly, so it's handy to have. Also when I'm travelling outside of the US all I need is wifi and I've got a phone number. No paying for country specific sim cards or phones, not to mention the horrible rates you get when you do that!

I like Skype video chat as well, though I mainly only use that to keep in touch with my parents, so I try to limit the time I use on that pretty strictly ;-)
