PSCS activation sucks - 05-17-2005, 09:55 AM

Last nite I had to do a system restore on my computer. When I tried to open PS it tells me I have to re-activate to use the program. Since that computer is not connected to the internet, I tried to reactivate over the phone. So I type in serial# and activation#, and get a message that I dont have the right # of digits in the activation# and customer service is closed for the nite.
So 3 calls later, average 10 mins per call, and had to wait till 8am this morning I finally get PS back up.
It a good thing that I did not have a deadline to meet. I think it is ridiculous to have a $600 piece of software that I cant use for over 10 hrs.I had thought upgrading to CS2, but I dont know now. And this is the second time this has happened. :x

Don't blame Adobe, blame all the hackers and warez folks that steal the software.

Even more so, BLAME MICROSOFT! If you didn't have to do a system restore (more than once) the activation system wouldn't be an issue.

Yet another reason I moved to the Mac.

Don't blame Microsoft...I've had the same Windows setup without a re-anything running on my desktop for nearly four years now. My work notebook is going on 1 1/2 years (and that's only because I replace it at will and I've been too lazy to do the transition to the new ones...)

Treat your computer as if your business depended on it - since it does!

Dude, get some new hardware :). I just swapped my old 1.8GHz P4 for a 3.0GHz HT P4 with an 800 MHz FSB. Man Linux flys with SATA and SMP! I was able to Partition Magic my IDE drive with Windows over to a new SATA drive and then re-GRUB to multi-boot XP and Linux. Huh? What did he say...

Having said all that... You and I both work in the industry and have for quite a while. We really know how to avoid common user oops'. I'll admit to using system restore once on my fathers machine because he loaded AOL software by mistake. On my own systems, I've never had to use it. But then again I know how to use regedit, msconfig, and other tools I wouldn't want any of my user base to even consider touching. For the average home user, the Windows world is a scary place. It has gotten better since XP, but I'm frightened of Longhorn. Remember Windows Me?

Apparantly with CS2 it's easier in the case of recovery/restores. Adobe learned from the mistakes of CS activation and now has the infor stored on the computer, so if you need to do a restore, you don't have to call in for a rereg. (Info in this month's review of CS2 in Rangefinder mag).

AMEN! I have been using Win2k for a while now and never had a problem.....when blaster was such a big deal...no problems (and I made a bunch removing blaster)

I agree that if people would just BUY the software, we wouldnt have these problems. I used GIMP for along time untill I could afford PSCS.
