I know this because I just received the following email.. Quote:
Dear Benefactor Of 2006 Masory Grant,
The Freemason society of Bournemout under the jurisdiction of the all Seeing Eye, Master Nicholas Brenner has after series of secret deliberations selected you to be a beneficiary of our 2007 foundation laying grants and also an optional opening at the round table of the Freemason society. These grants are issued every year around the world in accordance with the objective of theFreemasons as stated by Thomas Paine in 1808 which is to ensure the continuous freedom of man and toenhance mans living conditions. We will also advice that these funds which amount to USD 2.5million be used to better the lot of man through your own initiative and also we will go further to inform that the open slot to become a Freemason is optional, you can decline the offer.

Definitely a scam. A Mason would never ask you to join. You have to ask.

Man you can become a Mason and a Millionaire? GO FOR IT DUDE then invite us in and give each of us a pot of the FreeMason Gold! (Heck we know they have the back door key to Fort Knox and regularly visit the vaults for pocket money-how else can they afford all those %^&*()) (can't say because I don't want them mad at me).

Be a mason! you can build things out of stone (world's first stone camera?), consult an "all seeing eye" (lens, perhaps?) AND get millions for it! sounds too good to be true!
wait....

I am a Mason. ekeitt was right, YOU must request to become a mason, they do not "recruit". Also, there is no "All Seeing Eye" in Masonry, sounds like something out of Lord of the Rings. There is also no "round table", that soudns more like authorian legend. Masonry is an Ancient Fraternal Organization helping good men become better men. There are many other "societies" for the same purpose. For example: Catholics have "Knights of Columbus", Young Men have Demolays, and woman have Eastern Stars.
Masonry is not:
A Religion (though you must believe in a god to become a member)
A Satanic Society (we do not worship the devil or practice in any kind of dark rituals)
A Society bent on NWO or Anarchy
There are many "secrets" in masonry, but not unlike there are in any fraternal society, or religion.
So, I would clasify that E-Mail as a haux.

Isn't the "all-seeing-eye" an islamic thing anyway? I know they don't like compliments on possesions because of something like that.

Weird... My dad's side of the family are all Masons (women Eastern Star), and I went to the Masonic boarding school when I was a kid, so I know a good bit about them, and that doesn't sould legit AT ALL... Not only do YOU have to request to be a 'member', but you also have to know someone who is that will aid in you becoming that. There are a LOT of stories and tales about the Masons, most of which are untrue.
I am considering requesting to be a Mason, but both my dad and my grandfather have passed away, so I am not sure how to go about it at this point (going to talk to my grandmother). My grand father was pretty high on the ladder (is the Dallas area... Wilmer/Hutchins) when he passed away, so that might aid in my becoming one. However, I was involved in a lawsuit against the school when I was 16 (I'm 27 now) that ultimately led to it's closing a few years ago, so that might not help lol...

Definitely a scam to have fun with though. Start with asking them if the help they need is for the poor son of a widow.

Yeah... I knew it was a scam... I also knew that it definitely wasn't from the Masonic Lodge... But it was so poorly written and ludicrous that I thought it would be good entertainment.
