New Google Tool Bar... with spell checking... - 05-18-2005, 11:19 AM

I know most people can spell 1000 times better the I can, so I have to use a spell checker on just about anything I write.. and I still get some of it screwed up...

Well Google has come out with a new Tool Bar and it has a spell checker built right into it, now you can spell check all the forms and things you fill out on the web...

It is great, I have been using I Spell for this but it is really nice to have it built right in.

Those IE toolbars can be helpful, but take care witch ones you use. Many are riddled with spyware and pop-up blockers that can make some other sites choke. I have users that download Google and Yahoo toolbars and can't understand why their online banking doesn't work any more. The best one so far is not being able to access our Oracle application since three pop-up blockers were installed on the same machine!

Just a warning for unsuspecting souls.

Google is not a spy ware of any type.

If you install 3 different pop-up blockers then I would say you have a mess.
I just use the one on Google and if I do want a pop-up to come up just hold the CTRL and it will let it come up.

I guess MACs don't have to worry about it but then there is 1/4 the software out there for them and the cost is 3 times what a PC cost.

The previous Google toolbar had a bug in it that many spyware apps were abusing to get an entry into your machine.

I abandoned IE altogether months ago.. Mozilla all the way. If I can't view it under Mozilla, its not important.

Check the firefox extensions web page on the Mozilla site via Tools->Extensions. I seem to remember a spell checker extension for Firefox. Love it! Firefox that is!

Tabbed browsing - Instead of a new window try Ctrl-T to get a new tab window
Themes - Change the skin to your liking
Extensions - Kind of like PS plugins - many different mini applications
Bookmarks - Many goodies here including toolbar links, open all links in a folder
Downloads - I like the way it handles simultaneous downloads, pause, etc.
Multi-platform - Same on Win, Mac, & Linux

I'll try to think of more.

Its not what you're missing in Firefox, its what you're exposed to in IE. There are security holes in IE that you can drive a truck through.

Are there no security holes in Firefox, or is it just so new that the 14 year old hacker set hasn't had time to find them yet?

(Don't Misunderstand. I'm not being critical of Firefox. I'm just curious to learn)

There are holes in anything..a human still coded FireFox, so there will be mistakes. It seems that the mozilla people are better at catching them.

Another thing I like is being able to right click a link and open it in a new tab so I can continue reading the page I was on. I also like being able to highlight any word or phrase and do a google search on it.
