It's on Digg. Saw that yesterday.
I like even better the guy who was having his images/bandwidth stolen & used on Myspace. He replaced it with a Goatse image. (warning - don't google goatse from work, where children are present, or if you have a weak stomach) 75,000+ hits in a few days. And people started complaining that he "hacked" their site.
Fun fun fun.

The Goatse trick is an old one. Or at least, as old as 9/15, 2001.

Back a few years ago, I used to run a webservice that catered mainly to gaming websites. I had forty of fifty sites, and among them was a hugely popular (at the time) site called "Tribalwar". 4 or 5 days after the 9/11 tragedy one of the webmasters there was looking at photographs of the towers, and saw in the smoke of one image, a formation that looked very much like the face of the devil. His observation spread from there, and made the rounds all around the internet.

That afternoon, I started to notice my bandwidth use skyrocketing. By 3:30pm we were pulling well over 200Mbps, and it was killing all the websites, and freaking out my colocation company.

I frantically began sniffing the datastream to see what was causing the problem. It turned out to be that devil face picture, located on the servers that hosted the Tribalwars website. It seems, that CNN.com had hotlinked the image directly from my servers, and the resulting traffic was drowning me (and running up one hell of a bill). It was the premier above the fold picture on the CNN website. Front and center. No attribution, of course.

At that point, a certain unnamed person copied the goatse picture over the picture formerly containing the devils face, and for 45 minutes, CNN proudly displayed that notorious image front and center to the whole nation. Now, if you've never seen the goatse man, lets just say he wasn't the nicest chap ever, spreading his, er, exit portal that way.

I'll say, that the bandwidth usage actually increased after the substitution, however, I can also say every byte transferred made me laugh just that much harder. That image was pulled 3,100,000 times in just under an hour. Yes folks, that was the day I shot the entire nation the horrible red-eye. I'm so ashamed.

My ISP forgave the $18,000 worth of overage charges. Oddly, CNN never did apologize for hotlinking that image.

True story, so help me.
