I don't quite understand your question. What exactly are you wanting to know about credentials?

In general though...

Each event accredits individuals based on requirements set forth by the event organizer so there are no set standards or no "get in all events" credential so to speak.

Have the media outlet you represent apply for credentials for the event they want coverage of and if the requirements are met then access is usually granted.

Hope this helps a bit.

So from what your saying unless you represent a media outlet you are pretty much out of luck gaining access to prime shooting areas.

pretty much....
keep in mind that they have to place limits on the number of photographers and don't forget, this is a full time job for some of these guys and not just a "ohh, I wanna get in and shoot" opportunity

I understand that and would not want to step on someones livelyhood. Was just wondering about someone who is freelance and not tied to a certain media outlet so to speak. Is it just by reputation?

Welcome to the community!

It is very hard to be a freelancer and wanting to shoot high profile events. The role of the photographer in shooting high profile events is to give the event publicity for the person or event that the photographer is shooting. In order to get credentials to any event you would have to go thru the media relations person or a PR firm for the event. Members of the media will have there editor or traffic person submit a written request to get a press pass to shoot the event. Also the media relations person or PR firm will call an media outlet and invite them out to shoot.

If I may ask what are you trying to shoot? Maybe we can help you find an honest and legal route you can try to get credentials.

Thanks for the offer Dave, but really nothing in particular, just always saw people talking about having their credentials for this event or that event and was just curious. But thanks for your offer. I will definitely keep you in mind. How is the weather in Dallas? My daughter moved there about a year ago out of college. She really enjoys it there.
