Who's interested? - 01-15-2007, 01:09 PM

Is anyone else bored and cold? I'm tired of sitting around the house today being cold and doing nothing. I haven't been to the zoo for pictures, so I was thinking......If I'm going to be cold anyways, I might as well bundle up a little, go buy some gloves, and head up to the zoo to take some pictures. They are open until 4:00pm today. I'm not saying to go for 3 hours or anything, jsut for something to do.

Anyone interested?

I just threw some clothes in the Dryer to wear, and I'm about to head up to Old Navy to find a pair of Gloves. I'm going to grap my tripod (don't knoiw if they allow them) my 300d, my Sigma 18-125, and my Canon 100-300. Probably won't bring the flash....too much to carry if I'm not going to use it.

This sounds like fun but the Stars are playing in 30 minutes. Think I'm going to stay in to watch the match.

Won't the smog just melt the ice?

Also kinda hoping for some nice Ice Storm shots, but I doubt we'll get much in Houston.

Brian~
We can wait till the temp drops to 32 degrees, go outside w/a pitcher of water and maybe we'll get some "ice droplets" from the branches....

The Dallas Zoo hasn't said anything about tripods. Especially doubtful when the zoo is mostly empty during bad weather.

Downside, a lot of animals won't be out and about due to cold or wet.

Plus side, few people about makes it easier.

There are several different buildings you can go through to warm up, too.

I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I— I took the one less traveled by,
and then it petered out and I had to retrace my steps and wasted half a day.

FYI: I went to the Dallas zoo about 18 months ago for a "photo safari" (some others from the forum where there), and tripods were no problem (except for lugging them around all those hills - y'all need a flat area like Houston!)

I went on one of those Dallas Zoo Safaris, too (waste of money, IMHO.. the FW Zoo is much better and the "special access" wasn't very special).... and I seem to remember hearing something that part of the safari was that we had special permission to use tripods, which usually isn't allowed there.

The FW Zoo has no problem with tripods.

Well I meant the FW ZOO lol. But, by the time I got to the store for some gloves I got hungry, then wasn't going to get home until 3:00.....wasn't worth the time. Before I could replyt o ya'll posts, a friend picked me up and we swung up to Barnes and Noble, then I went to the Grocery store.....sooooooo, Guess I'm not going to the Zoo. LOL
