Feb. 07 issue of Pop Photo (pg. 17) - 01-15-2007, 09:33 PM

Anyone read the editorial in the Feb. 07 issue of Popular Photography? John Owens is introducing Pop Photo's International Shooting-all-the-time Day on Sunday January 21. He's encouraging people to shoot a mininum of 225 photos that day. You are to take at least one picture every 5 minutes during the day. Subjects are up to you. You can also send in 5 of your best and be eligible to win a prize (dSLR).
Sounds like fun and a good way to practice.

At least one picture every five minutes, that would be a challenge. 225 in a day, no problem.

I'll check it out.

I read that too! I think I am going to do that. I'm not sure if I'll enter the contest, but I like the challenge

I think here we see the downside of digital- mounds and mounds of thoughtless pictures... Why don't they have a "Wait till you see something worthwhile to take a picture" contest?

I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I— I took the one less traveled by,
and then it petered out and I had to retrace my steps and wasted half a day.

The point is to get you to just shoot. I don't see anything wrong with that. I've seen really good spur of the moment type pictures.

No he is trying to get people to hone their craft and the 200+ shots is basically just a guideline but if you don't shoot a lot you are not really exploring what a situation has to offer. He is trying to get people away from the FILM mindset that so many people have that they just takes 1,2 or 3 shots of a scene from one spot and then that is all. He wants people to shoot ALL SORTS OF SHOTS of a scene that they find interesting, get out and move around the scene, change lenses, change ISO settings and exposure levels, add or take something away from the scene (*use reflectors/flashes/scrims etc), be creative but use all those actions to hone your craft.

I think it is a great challenge!
