Question Camera is slowing me down ?! - 01-17-2007, 08:26 AM

Hi all,

I enjoy photography from time to time, but sometime I wonder why do I feel lazy to carry an SLR camera with a zoom lens. I feel that is too bulky and I worry about dropping my camera or getting my camera wet when I do some outdoor activities.

About two years ago, I traded my SLR camera with a digital point-and-shoot camera that I can put in my pocket; however, point-and-shoot has its limitation. Now, I'm in the mood of taking more photos, but I don't want to buy a SLR camera that will slow me down and I can't enjoy my activities because I might end up leaving the camera at home.

So, my questions to you all fellow photographers... Do you really carry your camera everywhere you go? Do you have a waterproof carrying case for your camera to make sure you camera is not getting wet for some activities close to water.

Any sugesstion on how to handle my camera without feeling that my camera is slowing me down? Should I go to that place once with a small camera, and go back there again just to take photos?

Thanks,
Donny

Hey Donny... I love bringing my Canon Rebel XT with me most places I go but most of the time I leave it at home. I'm on schedule to be buying a Canon SD800IS Elph soon cause I do like taking pictures but don't like the bulky feel of the Rebel especially when I'm running around. I would recommend one of each so whatever the situation may call for, that is what you bring.

Like i said, depends on the situation...

My camera is near me now all the time, with a charged up battery or two and plenty of flash cards.

As to weather I tend to buy cameras that don't die in a rainstorm or dust storm. ACtually had one photog check my camera out in a real harsh environment and he said you don't have a thing to worry about because that thing is a tank and that was my go to camera-I think my latest addition isn't quite so tough but have not put it through it's TEST yet.

Yeah a pocket p+s is convenient but just doesn't do what my DSLR can.
