You gotta laugh...Update - 01-17-2007, 05:00 PM

If you had a bad day, hopefully this will make you laugh...

My mother-in-law, who lives in WA State, breeds miniature dachshunds. She came down at Thanksgiving and told me about a litter she just had. All of the pups were silver, long-haired mini's. Very rare. During the course of the week she was here, she talked me into taking one (well, really buying but at a discount). Remember, very rare. She described all of them and asked which one I wanted. I picked the "fuzzy" one. A couple of weeks later, she wanted to know what I would name him. How on earth do you name something you have never seen? Anyway, after going through lots of names we came up with Shiloh. Problem was, how do we get him to Texas? Leave it to her to find someone coming to DFW after the first. To make a really long story short, he was due to arrive today. Welcome the snow and ice! His "original" flight was delayed six times before being canceled. Rescheduled flight has now been delayed twice and is due to arrive about 10 p.m.

What do you do? You can't leave a puppy at the airport unclaimed. Hopefully, school tomorrow. Hopefully, hubby works tomorrow. I drive a mustang. Not exactly good on the ice. God help me!!!!

And ---- all of these issues for a "mini" weenie! Maybe I should have gone with a larger one to make it worth while!

Have a great night!

Debbi

Dachshunds rock.

My family hasn't been without one since I was about... 5 I think.

My folks currently have two.

Cute story and I hope your puppy arrives safely. I'd be calling the airline to check on him.

I just spoke to his "temporary guardian". All is well. The sad thing is that even he has a carry-on bag. Has to have treats for take-off and landing, extra blankent, extra food, paperwork, etc. They defnitely won't have to pay extra for being "overweight". Last week for his health certificate, he weighed in at a hefty 2.4 lbs.

Doesn't need a sweater. LOVES the snow. They have it where he is coming from too. Also, he's so low to the ground, he'd probably pee on his sweater.

So, the new baby is now officially "in the air". All I can say is, "new model!"

I've seen a pic or two of this pup and he is adorable.

Did they sedate him for the plane trip? For the sake of the passengers, I hope so.

Yes, Scott, dachshunds rock. We haven't been without one for almost 19 years. We tend to go with the standard longhaireds.

I would say that is a definite - especially since they don't make dogs in Texas and I have to get one flown in from Seattle (lol!).

No sedation (per the vet). Just lots of treats and, of course, love!

I know most would laugh but this has been harder than giving birth (done it twice the real way). The baby is here!!!!!!(At least with hubby on the way back from the airport.) How do you know if someone really loves you - he goes to the airport, in the snow, late at night when he has to get up early, to pick up a dog he doesn't want. Finally after almost 3 months - all 2+ pounds of him. I will post pics of him tomorrow.

If you have read all of this, thank you and I apologize for wasting your time.

You're not wasting anyone's time, so no apologies needed.

Can't wait to see the pics of Shiloh. Congrats!

Just a quick pic. More will defintely be coming...

For a sense of scale, the green thing he is chewing on is 4" high. He doesn't look it in this pic, but his coat is really silver. He is also already desperately spoiled rotten. Oh my!
