Are any of TPF's Austinites going to the Dirck Halstead signing at the Barnes and Nobel Westlake
701 S. Capital of Texas Hwy.#P860
Austin, TX 78746
512-328-3155
On Feb. 7th.
I would like to bet a signed and inscribed copy but can not be there (middle of week and such). I would be happy to send a trusted person the money for a copy and shipping and 5 dollars to cover their time. If some one, would pick me up a copy please let me know. I'm going to see if the store can do this but I would like a fall back plan.

John if I had known I could have picked one up at the Expo for you since he was signing books after his talk at the Canon booth on Monday morning.
Since he is a Senior Fellow at UT you may be able to write to him direct and get a copy if all above fails for you.

Oh by the way that is Bush Uno before he had recieved the nomination. See when all of the candidates decide to run for office each one gets a team of photographers imbedded with them and Dirk was hooked up with Bush Uno and at this time Bush asked Dirk if he wanted to go jogging so he said yes with camera in hand and in this case the future president was with his dog, Millie, and for some reason they decided to run through these peoples picnic and Dirk just happened to be right there to get the shot.

I really enjoyed his talk. A lot of history through the lens.
Still kicking myself for not getting his book at Imaging.

I saw a small part of his presentation on Monday. Maybe 1/2. I was very impressed with him. I initially typed "he was lucky to have been able to capture so many great events in history" but that's not a correct statement. He is a very shrewd man that captured a lot of great moments with intent (except for maybe the Monica and Bill hugging image. That was right place at the right time). One of the things that stuck in my mind was that he knew that Richard Nixon wouldn't look people in the eye. When he spoke he always looked at the American flag. So Dirk set a ladder up under a flag pole and caught a phenomenal image of him. With intent...
His presentation was awesome. After Fran's presentation I tried to find where he was signing books but he was already gone.

He just had gone to a table back behind the wall over by where the large printer guys were set up with the lady from the bookstore with the books.
I saw his presentation last year at the Expo and he does have some great stories to tell everytime he speaks.
This book just came out last month so he is really excited about it.

Somehow I mised him. I spent a lot of time around those @#^@ printers. When I was there they were setting up some kind of shot with a lot of people near one of the printers. Maybe he temporarily moved for that? I may try to run to Austin for his signing but the way my work schedule goes I can't make any promises (John).

John UT already has his archive, he mentioned it last year and again this year in his Monica Bill pic because a lot of his work was already down at UT when they were looking for the picture that was finally found in a odd dead film room at TIME.

I'll have to ask the next time I'm there digging in their files.
