Good for you David! I was in your boat a few months ago. Not only was I out of shape, I was WAY overweight. Now I'm in shape and 50 pounds lighter.
Do whatever it takes to motivate you to get back on the saddle. Any exercise is better than no exercise.

Good luck man. I started walking in the mornings and I feel good already. I've cut out almost all junk food and like Standford said, just watching my portions. It works.

My number one killer were sodas. I couldn't get enough of them.

I havent had a weight problem in 45 years, but when I say out of shape I mean it. I have "no tone, or muscle".
We will see what happens.

you might want to do some stuff on your own first before you join up for that boot camp.

streatching is real important in our older age. Go slow and easy at first to get your body warmed up for it, then go for the boot camp so it does not really put the hurtin on you the first day or so.

soda = bad (any soda, even diet drinks are evil) I switched to crystal light, no callories and no sugar, makes water tast worth drinking.

fast food and fried foods are a HUGE no no.

portion control and increasing the number of times you eat works for most people. It did for me. Just eat smarter, read the lables on stuff you buy and try to cut what you can with out giving it all up. If you make it too hard on your self you wont want to stick with it.

always work towards a treat for all the hard work you have done that week . I would have dessert or a shake or some ice cream on fridays, but I would work extra hard on Saturday. I really need to get back on my bike and get in shape for my upcoming trip to Big Bend

David before entering the bootcamp do this for a week- 50 push ups a day (even if it is 10 sets of 5) Walk one mile straight at a brisk pace (write time down and see if you improve) If you can include a hill even better, do 5o sets ups a day (same as push ups if it is 10 sets of 5 so be it) and if you have one available do at least 10 pull ups a day. Then at the end of the week see if you feal better. Don't expect any weight loss over the week and not any real muscle tone change but just see how you feel and how you sleep.

Over the last year I have dropped over 35 lbs by just doing a bit more exercise and cutting back on the Dr P and I am still going in the right direction to lose a bit more weight.

Good Luck!

You ought to see him in person. DAMN, he is one walking muscle. And a really nice guy. BTW, for everyone, I may try to "gain" weight in this. I am 6' and 180+/- 5 lbs.

You are in the same position that I am. Like you, I DON'T need to lose weight - my weight is fine and stable, just out of shape. My wife belongs to a nice Gym, so I will probably just join that. They have an indoor lap pool, so I can start to get my SCUBA muscles in to shape.

Personally, I think a 'ramp it up' approach would be better than a 'boot camp' approach as long as you stick to it. I know in my case I have a knee that needs to be strengthened before I did anything heavy with it.
