Phoenix Trip Suggestions - 01-24-2007, 12:58 PM

I am going to Phoenix this Sunday thru next Thursday. Should have about 1/2 day to go do some shooting. Any ideas that is not several hours away. If the weather is cooperating, I was thinking about driving up to Red Rock State Park near Sedona. I've been to Superstition Mt. (I think that is the name) and wasn't overly impressed. Any other ideas?

Thanks!

Debbi

I'm an aviation nut and can't get any where near Phoenix with out making the 2 hour run down to the Pima Aircraft Museum one of the finest in the nation.

Sorry missed your 1/2 day limit. Same for Arcosanti which is 65 miles north.

You might want to check out Cosanti which is the studio and home of Paolo Soleri. It is very photogenic and very different.

Thanks for the ideas. Hopefully, I'll be able to escape the hotel around noon and get back - well - when I get back. Leave to go home the next day.

Man half a day to sightsee, that sucks.

If you can get there at sunset, red rock area would be your best bet. It is absolutely incredible. You may not want to go home.... I promise.

It does suck but it's a business trip so what do you do. I will feel fortunate to get that long - and I have been there before.

Thanks Tom. I think Red Rock at sunset would be great. Next Wed is forecasting snow showers - huh? It could be interesting.

there is an indian reservation just north of phoenix that has some good camera ops. not sure of the name atm but look at a map. walking up and down the streets of Scotsdale also brings a few photo ops.

A couple years back, I took a half day desert jeep tour which was great for pictures. It was just my wife, me and the guide so he pretty much let us do what ever we wanted. Apologies, but I cannot remember the name of the company.

Thanks everyone for the ideas. I will actually be staying in Scottsdale so I should get a chance to walk around there before I leave.

Shameless bump for suggestions. I leave in the a.m. I've been to Phoenix before on these meetings but never really had an opportunity to expolore. Sedona is definitely a must if the weather holds and IF I really get that much time. All of my other trips have been what I could do at the resort, and while generally great, it's not what I consider really exploring.

The drive to Tortilla Flats will give you plent of photo opportunities. It's pretty twisty and windy, but take your time and it'll be worth the trip.

Debbi,

Did you find any good shooting locations near Phoenix? I'll be there in a few weeks and am looking for good photo ops.

The weather wasn't very cooperative while I was there, but I did drive to Sedona (a couple of hours north). Absolutely gorgeous scenery! If you don't have that much time, a drive to Superstition Mountain (east of Phoenix about 30 minutes) would be worth it.

Scottsdale is also a nice area with plenty of photo ops. Enjoy

I lived there for a little over 6 years. From anywhere in Phoenix you should look for South Mountain. You will see all of the communication towers. If you drive up there you will have a fantastic view of the whole area and you can get some really nice shots day or night.

Thanks Debbi. I hope to make it to Sedona one afternoon.

Great DJ, I'll look for it -- thanks.
