Video of Prehistoric Shark found in Japan - 01-26-2007, 05:17 PM

This is a weird looking shark. They moved it to a saltwater tank where it quickly died. They say that it was in bad shape and that was the reason that it had come up from the deep depths that it live in. I believe it is called a Frilled shark.

Freaky. It looks like an old or diseased shark.

This shark is rarely seen alive since it tends to be at depths of over 500 ft and the only ones that do show up are usually tangled up in fishermans nets. What is odd is that this one was found in shallow waters, maybe pulled up by a fishing net but getting loose before getting to the surface so was in no condition to swim back down to its normal habitat in the oceon?

Yeah it is one strange looking creature no telling what else is down there since whenever we send down submursables they are down for a matter of hours and over a small area vs the vastness of the oceons.

I had not thought about the fishing net. I was watching discovery or one of the other shows the other day and they were showing a fish market in Asia somewhere and they said that the scientists that were looking for new species just go to the market and walk around looking at the vendors tables with fish on them.

When I saw this video a couple days ago, I was like WHOA WHAT THE?!?! The video of it definitely looks as though it were sick. I bet when its up and running all nice and healthy, its pretty mean. Judging from the video, the shark had cloudy eyes and something else...It's a fish disease that makes the body look all crooked and stuff. Forgot the name. regardless, it was obvious that little guy (at 5 feet in length haha) looked like it was on its last leg.
