PMA-New Camera release question - 01-27-2007, 07:40 PM

So if Canon does end up releasing a new 40D, new 5D or 1Dmark2 - how long until they are actually available for purchase? It looks like I am moving in the April-May time frame and won't be able to buy a new body/lens after I move.

I need to upgrade some of my equipment before I move and am looking at getting 1-2 new bodies and maybe 1-2 new lenses.

I realize that this will all be speculation, but I never really paid attention at past releases and a little help would really go a long way for me.

Thanks!
Thomas

Canon usually moves pretty quickly--a few weeks at the most, I'd guess.

occasionally a month, sometimes two.

i dread the announcements because measureabators don't bother reading the announcement. they immediately think that it is available the day it is announced so we get innundated with calls the day of announcement asking if we have any in stock.

I heard Canon is coming out with a 22 megapixel 12 fps 1.3x 3D with 45 autofocus points and weather sealing. Do you accept Paypal over the phone?

I heard it also performed Image Stabilization on the actual image file CF card AFTER taking the shot, as well as dust elimination & repulsion that electromechanically pushed dust away from the body itself!
Yes! Please let me know as soon as they are in! Can I put an 80% down to hold a first shipment unit?!?!

I was in the same position a couple of weeks ago. I was moving out of the wedding business as my primary photography and decided to sell one of my 5D's....and wait until PMA to see what came. I am in the process of trying to shoot more PJ and Sports then just be a pro second shooter at weddings and/or significantly raise my minimum price for my packages.

Well.. as luck would have it..I have been selected to shoot second for one of the areas best wedding photogs and he has already booked me for nearly 10 weddings over the next couple of months. Kinda forced my hand a little bit. I needed a backup, but didn't want a 30D. I had already owned (2) 20D's and (2) 5D's. My goals were to get a faster AF camera with a bit of FOV crop factor, weather sealed and built tough. The 1D series had always been on my list, but I wanted to wait to PMA...

Anyway, I finally decided to go with the 1DMarkIIn and at this point do not regret it at all. When I stacked up all the features I could think of, + whatever I thought realistically they might offer on an upgrade over the next year...I determined that the MkIIn did everything I could really want and at a price nearly $1k cheaper than when I originally began contemplating it. I had a need, and did what I thought was best. I feel like I have 2 excellent camera bodies that will serve me well for a variety of shooting situations. I am sure I'll see something that makes me "lust" after it.. But I need to make great pics now...and the offerings currently available fit the bill.

Good luck with your decision.

I think I may just go with the 1DmarkII or n. I am moving to the Sudan, so I can't really get anything after I move there. Gotta do it right the first way.

I think you'll be happy with your decision. I have been testing mine out all weekend.. I am really pleased with the results. Advice...read the manual front to back online prior to receiving. It'll help with the learning curve. There are a ton of features. Nice camera.

A pro or semi pro needs a camera NOW, while the amateurs like me only think they need it now. We have the luxury of waiting if we choose to. In your case, the camera made you money that would you would not have made if you didn't have it, even though you might have made do without it.
