Got a New LCD HDTV - update with photos - 01-28-2007, 09:48 PM

Wellt he wife and i finally got a new TV we have been wanting for a long time.

Its a Sony 46" LCD HDTV 1080p. supposedly its got some great reviews. It was a bit more than we wanted to spend, but at 24 months no interest at Sears, we could not pass it up.

http://www.lcdtvbuyingguide.com/sony...kdl46xbr2.html

we are having it delivered this friday so the rush is on to get a piece of furniture to put it on.

This is gonna be a HUGE jump from our 25" TV thats about 12 years old.

edit to add pics of the tv now that it is set up.

side by side of new and old

James

Congrats, the next step is to get HDDVD or BluRay to take advantage of that 1080p. I am loving our 71' Samsung 1080p DLP with the PS3 attatched to it.

Nice set. One thing to experiment with is to run your computer into the VGA connection. I recently tried to use a Viewsonic 37" LCD for my computer monitor. I figured it would be better than 2x19" panels, plus I would get PIP & PBP for a little TV while post processing. The only trouble was the resolution - my windows icons were the size of postage stamps at the highest setting. However, when I opened photos in Photoshop - AMAZING...

Congrats James. My wife and I just went through the same thing last week. We purchased a 56" Samsung DLP and had it delivered on Friday. We made a trip to Ikea to pick up a TV stand and some shelves on Monday night so that we had something to put it on. HD is awesome!

It's the new rage! My wife and I got a 37" Sharp LCD at Sam's Club a couple of weeks ago. It was a little disappointing until our HD upgrade went through on cable, then wow!...just wow. Awesome TV for under $1,000

thanks all, We found a piece of furniture to put it on but its discontinued and none available any where.

my wife is very particular on furniture so this is gonna be a big deal for her. It was a lot easier picking out the TV than the stand its gonna fit on.

also we got a $300 rebate on top of the deal, well not a true rebate, still have to send in the rebate forms and then when it comes back we will be able to get a "free"surround sound system up to $300

I was looking at the Time Warner HD line up and only a few channels in HD are available. We have digital cable, but not signed up for any of the HD channels

Just put a antana on it to get your local networks in HD and that often times looks better then cable HD anyway.

Congrats on the TV!

I have the whole she-bang from TWC, the quality is decent but paid way too much for that extra few hd channels :(

Unless you like premium show in hd like Soprano, Rome...etc, local hd channels have enough shows in hd to fill your evening. Get an antenna like Jack suggested, utilize the built-in ATSC tuner and get "free" hd on the air for a starter. I prefer Radio Shack powered indoor antenna 15-1880.

Thanks, we dont have any premium channels, just basic digital. so the antenna to get local HD channels would better suit our needs.

I love the convenience of the HDMI cables though, if you aren't stepping up to a HDDVD or Bluray player, at least get a upconverting DVD player.
