It sounds great,,,but It will be an uphill battle unless they can make it work with exsisting equipment. I read that microsoft has agreed to not invoke thier patent rights but I don't know if I trust em .

Dead before it hits the ground....

It's not that the world doesn't need a better standard format, they do. But I can't see everyone buying into a format they have to supplicate themselves to Microsoft for, in order to use it - and have no input into the standards process. Ultimately, every software maker and manufacturer knows, that when it comes to the standard, Microsoft will always serve it's own interests first.

I do agree with one thing - cameras will drive the future of raster formats. It would be nice to have more than 8 bits to work with. With todays processors and cheap storage, why not 64x64x64? There's no technical reason cmos chips couldn't produce images that would exceed the tonality and color range of even the best films. If they can build a 64bit die for CPU's, they can build a die for image sensors too.
