Has anyone here built themselves a Hackintosh using osX86?

I'm thinking of building one and was wondering if there was anyone with some experience/advice.

*I know I could just buy a Mac, but then where's all my frustration and hair pulling gonna come from*

Just seems like taking the only virtue to the mac (that everything is single source, so works together & is well tested) and throwing that away to get something as unstable as a windows or linux PC with a different UI

Might be fun though :)

Gordon, your absolutely correct...

...but I'm a glutton for punishment, and I've already "Conquered" both Ubuntu and Fedora.

I'm afraid my time to tape and bailing wire one of these hacks together is worth much more than the cost of an iMac. Come on Stevil, you know you want the real deal...
Come into the light. The first one is [almost] free

Scott,

I really wanted a MacBook, but I have to wait until all the wrinkles are fully ironed out of the MacIntels.

OTOH, I already own a closet full of computer junk and can cobble together a system for the cost of a Core Solo CPU. Just something to play with while I wait for the LED backlit MacBooks to be released.

I hear ya. I'm not ready for a new notebook until next year. For now my G4 PowerBook is just fine. I'll get a MacBook Pro next year sometime...

Have fun with your project. From what I read on the insane site, it's pretty crippled compared to the real deal (audio and WiFi are tough as are some other peripherals). Let us know how it goes...

LED backlit MacBooks ? :)

My wife keeps griping at me to get a new laptop, compared to my slow sony vaio

I think a Mac might be in my future in there somewhere.

There is more frustration involved that it seems. I've tried it on over 6 different notebooks. They all have different issues after the OS is installed. Sadly, however, even in it's crippled state the notebooks still run faster than when it had MS OS installed.
