Canon wireless - 02-04-2007, 10:54 PM

I read back through the equipment forum, couldn't really find anything on this. Was wanting a wireless controler for a Canon 30D The Canon LC-5 is around $400.00, is there something out there that is as good for alot less money? Going on trip in March and want more control that the self timer gives.

Link Delight on eBay appears to have what you need.

What sort of remote control are you looking for ?

The canon Timer gives quite a lot of flexibility - long exposures, delayed exposures, multiple exposures, intervals etc. Takes up to 99 shots, interval delay can be set between 1 second and 99 hours, initial self-timer delay and bulb time is the same.
TC-8N3 (don't think it works on the rebel range though - check it works for your camera) It isn't wireless but it depends if you need to capture the criical moment or not.

For just a wireless shutter release that ebay unit looks like it would do the job.
The pocket wizard alternative is really pricey too - $360 for the transmitter units and another $125(!) for the cable.

Thanks Johnastovall, for the link.
Gordan I was looking for a wireless shutter release, want to get in some of the shots with the family on vacation and not be tethered to a wire on the camera.

in other words, like the old RC-1 that I used on my film Elan, and cost a whopping $25 new retail.

3 settings: off, normal and 5 second delay.

Nice and simple. what a radical concept.....

The RC-1 works for the digital rebel too.

Is it really cheaper to buy a whole new SLR + $25 wireless remote, than buying the canon wireless remote for their high end cameras ?!? ;)

The problem mainly seems to be that the remote connector for the higher end cameras is a proprietary connector that you can only seem to source from Canon. They cost about $50, just for the connector.
