Wow, that WAS pretty interesting, I watched the whole thing! I'm wondering though, did I miss something or did they not show the shotgun test?

It taught me that the AK-47 is better than the M16. Nice to know that the enemy infantry has the better standard issue weapon.

Interesting video.

I'd be a bit more cautious before labeling the M16 as the inferior weapon. First of all, this is a comparison of the M-16 (a .22 caliber weapon) with the AK47 (a .30 caliber weapon), but the vast majorioty of the AKs in use in Iraq are the newer AKM, whcih is also a .22 caliber rifle.

Note also that the tests of bursts are fired from rigid test benches. When a burst if fired from a test bench, there is no muzzle climb as there is when the same weapon is fired from a person's hands. True, there isn't a lot of muzzle climb with an M16, but there is more with an AK47. In other words, you won't get nice neat little groups where the rounds follow each other in perfect alignment and help to penetrate a solid wall.

I'd be curious to know when the video was produced. Most of the videos were all of training, and the Marines had old uniforms on, though there were a few that appeared to be from Iraq.

Thanx for the link.

True.... If I needed accuracy and was shooting at longer distances, I would prefer the smaller caliber (less penetrating) weapon. I think it was the discovery channel the other day that was showcasing the M-16. Although it is smaller caliber, the bullet would tumble after entering the body and seperate into three peices. They were talking about how, once hit not many (if any) survived.

When I was in Germany we got to shoot various AK models, and on full auto anything after the 3rd round was anti-aircraft fire. The M-16 was controllable, the AK was not.

I would definitely prefer the M16 over the AK47, having used both extensively, but I also prefer the old M14 too.

Well, my AK is the .30 cal one, and of course is not the full auto one either. But then again, I'm not really a full auto kind of guy. Seems to me that if you can't get it done in one bullet, you shouldn't be trying to do it in the first place. I guess that's why my favorite rifle is my old single shot bolt action .22. That was what I was taught on, and it really taught me to line up my shots carefully, and to be a better shot.

The AK is more durable and powerful than the M-16... not news. Welcome to the Vietnam war era heh. .223 is inherently more accurate than 7.62mm but not as powerful. They each have their pluses and minuses.

I think an AK that fires .223 is called an AK-74 isn't it?

AK74 and AKR (Krinkov) both fire a .223 type round.

So do y'all ever find it humorous that on the creature features, they'll have some giant critter the size of T-rex, and all they can manage to shoot at it are .22 caliber weapons?

I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence:

and then it petered out and I had to retrace my steps and wasted half a day.
