FWIW, the default standard for deleting a file in any way securely on recordable media is 25 complete writes over the top of the data. You also have to use suitably destructive data patterns to overwrite the data in an non-retrievable way. The generally suggested safe way to delete something you really want deleted is to use acid or fire. http://www.cs.auckland.ac.nz/~pgut00...ecure_del.html for more reading :) (sort of out of date, but is the basis for the unix 'shred' command) |
