Since I am in the tech business, I have been running Vista at work for a few months. You definitely need a beefy machine for this OS. I haven't made the switch at home yet, but when I do, I will go with Vista Ultimate (I get it free).

The OS is nice visually and does take a bit to find some things. But overall I like Vista.

Yep, M$ almost has an operating system as good as OS-X.

I've been reading a lot of tech sites and let's just say that when the time for my next computer comes it will run OS X. Everyone has to make their own decisions but for me I just can't abide the latest level of big brother Microsoft.

You just need a beefy machine if you plan on using all the new bells and whistles.

I installed in on my wife's sub-par laptop and it runs fine. She doesn't have transparent title bars, or 3d flip, but the OS still runs just as good as XP.

I'm running it on all of my PC's now. I really really love the update to Media Center, and I have a dedicated box that runs Vista so that my XBOX 360 can use it as a mediacenter extender. I got my laptop for work and have been using it on there as well. I thought that might have been a problem, but all my apps and even my cisco vpn client work just fine in Vista.

What few complaints I had about Vista during the beta have all been ironed out after it's release and the few remaining companies got their drivers released.

My only issue at work is a new Toshiba laptop that came with Vista cannot run XP because Toshiba did not build drivers for it. Our corporate IT doesn't approve of Vista yet, so we had to return it in favor of a less powerful older model.

I just installed business edition on my own desktop on a second drive. So far it looks pretty, but I haven't really worked with it yet. I'll know more next week.

If you use it for your main computer and for your pictures, say goodbye to your RAW files. :D

I don't plan on running vista....much less XP for much longer. I like my macbook pro and waiting for the macs to roll out this summer. :)

Are you saying that it will not allow Raw images?
If that is the case I am going to be highly pissed now.
My laptop too is a toshiba which is what I had before.
Does PS CS2 work with Vista?

If you google "vista deleting raw files" and "adobe says do not install any macromedia programs cause Vista will not run it."

edit: macromedia products will make vista freeze or pause.

There appears to be a known issue with Canon 1D & 1Ds .TIF files and Vista. See this link:
http://blogs.msdn.com/pix/archive/20...le-issues.aspx

This is hardly what I would call a 'kiss your RAW files goodbye' situation.

Perhaps Alex knows more and can fill us all in with a link to the report of problems.

mobilezen, do you actually have any experience with these problems? Or are you just saying what 'you heard'.

My RAW files work just fine in Vista, and I have the entire Macromedia MX suite installed with no problems.

One thing I have noticed is that with the Wacom Intos 3, it sometimes does a double tap when I try and draw a line. So like if I go to Lasso something and start the line, it acts as if I touched the tablet twice, which means I get a stupid pop-up saying no pixels have been selected. This was a SERIOUS issue a couple version of thier drivers ago, but now it only happens occasionally with the latest drivers. Hopefully it will be completely fixed with the next release.

Ok so there is a glimmer of hope then.
