I will be doing a photo shoot starting Friday night in Dallas and touring across the state finishing back in Dallas Monday night.
This is a major shoot concentrating on hot spots like the capital, the Alamo, South Padre Island, Big Bend National Park and such.
Yes this is short notice, I am unwilling to use stock images so the shots must/will be mine. This is for a commercial client and I will have at least 2 assistants with me to help in driving and such.
Yes I doubt we will stay in a hotel as we will use the night to travel to a wide range of locations.
I'd be curious what landmarks you guys think are a must shoot!

In Dallas: Fair Park but since you are from Dallas area I would not waste time in Dallas shooting but would do that after you get back.
I would head south on I-35 and would stop in Waco at the Suspension Bridge (just west of I-35 and across the Brazos). If you are doing Buildings then the Dr Pepper Museum Building downtown, birthplace of Dr Pepper which is a Texas Ikon.
Then on to Austin: Capitol, Gov's Mansion, 6th Street -leave the rest up to Austin Posters
Then to San Antonio: Alamo, Riverwalk
Then over to Houston:
Then down to Corpus:
Then to Laredo: Some sort of Border shot
Then to Big Bend area: Ft Davis, McDonalds Observatory, Santa Elena Canyon
Then back to Dallas by way of Midland/ Odessa: Recreation of Shakesperean Globe Theatre, Oilpatch subjects.
Also would help with an idea of what type of backgrounds you are looking for, very tight and specific or wide open landscapes etc.

I didn't think of Waco and I'm not sure other than the Houston skyline what is thought of as "iconic" in Houston.
I'm looking for images that will say "Texas" some can just be the crowded riverwalk, the highway sign "Welcome to Texas" I can run up to the Okie border and get that one. I'll want some of tourist at the Alamo...and then some nice night shots. I'll get a few of my assistant and his wife walking on the beach in South Padre with the white (kinda tan huh, lol) sands.
I'll probably stop by Luchenback and maybe run up to the Nocona boot factory close to me as well. Of course I'll grab some of "Cowtown" and Billy Bob's over the next week.
Keep the ideas coming!
Thanks!

Guadalupe Peak/El Capitan - definite Texas landmarks since GP is the highest point in the state.

its gonna be tough covering that distance in such a short time.
make sure you are ready/account for time at the stops at the immigration check points in and out of the Bid Bend Area. Went through once and traffic was backed up and took 20 minutes to get through. Most of the points you ar the only car there and have to wait for the guy to come out of the shack, he will ask you a few questions and you are on your way.

Thanks guys, I never thought about the immigration check list......GP is that in Big Bend?
What I'm going to try and do is narrow the list down to 12 gotta gets and 15-18 total places to "try" and hit.

The Queen Isabel Causeway, shrimp boats, the Port Isabel Light House. Anything you can find to do with fishing, whether off-shore, surf, or bay.

check this map of west Texas GP is on the leaft hand side of the map above the HWY 54 marker http://www.texasoutside.com/westtexa.../westtexas.htm

Reliant & Minute Maid Park Stadiums would also probably be nice here in Houston. We did have a Superbowl hosted here recently. As stated above, the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo are in full swing now & would make for some good photo ops but you would likely need tickets to get in & need to do so at times where there was some rodeo action going on to get the good photos.
You may get lucky & see some Bluebonnets on your trek. Maybe some pics of Texas Stadium & Kyle Field @ UT & A&M.....
I would seriously plan your stops ahead of time because if you just try to drive around the city looking for stops, it will probably me much more chaotic.

Luckenbach, Texas
If nothing else, get a picture of the sign marking the town. If you don't know why Luckenbach is famous you must not be from around here. Luckenbach

If driving from Dallas to Big Bend N.P. and return, Houston is WAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYY out of the way.
Off the top of my head and without benefit of a map, I reckon that Guadalupe Mountains N.P. would be easier than Houston to include in this Mad Dash.
Yup. I was right.
Fredericksburg during the day. The Guadalupe River upstream from Kerrville in daylight.
