Coffemaker - 02-27-2007, 03:47 PM

Okay I bought the Cuisinart DGB300BK(http://www.cuisinart.com/catalog/pro...id=30&cat_id=3) about 1 1/2 years ago. I used it maybe 10 times, the last 3 times it has brewed coffee that taste like water. I have done extensive research and found out that this has quite a few problems.

I am going to buy the Melitta MEBB1B
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16896118090
today.

What coffee makers are you all using, and do you like it.

I have a Braun at home that I've had about 8-9 years now. I brew a pot every morning and haven't had a bit of trouble with it. But, at Kathy's house, I got a Black & Decker about 5 years ago... I make a pot every weekend morning & it's even better than the Braun. If I ever replace mine it will be with the Black & Decker. Easy to find, not expensive, makes good coffee & no problems........

Black and Decker at work and a Mr. Coffee at home. Never a problem.

I used a "OtherCompany 2000". Seriously, it is cheap. It always full and the clean-up isn't even an issue. It's always clean!

Unfortunately it has a nasty habbit of spitting out decaf in the morning.

Prophet out.

I use a Melitta cone filter, grind my beans every morning, an electric kettle, and then drip into a thermos. Best system for me as I don't think the brew systems get enough temperature into the water prior to brew. I can have a hot cup at lunch and it will taste just like the first cup at 8:00.

Try using coffee maker cleaners every once in a while. I try and clean mine after every 6 pots. It keeps buildup of minerals, calcium, all that good stuff.

I have used a Gevalia pot that came free for a couple years.

It could have something to do with your water. I'm not much on coffee, but I have a tea maker that I use regularly. Typically, I use the filtered water that comes through the refrigerator. Last week, I decided to use Ozarka spring water to see what the difference would be. There were absolutely no other alterations to my method, just the water. It came out very weak, almost as if the spring water just didn't penetrate the tea bag well or something. Once I was through with that jug, I went back to the other water and everything was back to normal, so I'm pretty sure it wasn't a malfunction. I may try the spring water again sometime just to see if it happens again.

spring water has a completely different taste than filtered city water so it will alter the taste of the drink you make with it. I have a water softner and my coffee taste a lot better with the soft water Vs. the hard water

My brother got a vacuum coffee maker a couple years ago. Don't know how he likes it but it was pretty cool to watch it make coffee!
