CompUSA Closing - 03-01-2007, 09:14 AM

According to the news it looks like we're loosing another electronics competitor at least in my town. I think the closest locations to remain open will be in Frisco and Plano. I can remember driving to Arlington many years ago to CompUSA but there wasn't near the competition back then that there is now.

One less option in case you need something and can't wait.

I never really liked CompUSA. Prices were not competitive, selection was lousy, and they seemed geared more towards serving corporate/businesses than average Joe.

Maybe pick their bones when the stores start to close, did not like their customer service at all on laptop repairs. Charged like $80 to tell you that it would cost $600 to repair and could not tell me what was wrong with the motherboard-they even admitted that they could not test it! They just took all the stuff off and hooked it up to other things and saw that the other parts were good so they determined the MB was bad. Had bought it used a couple years before for less than $600-now setting in a closet-could always pull the HD and put it in another laptop to pull the data off.

With service like that I never shopped there again even for CD's or flash cards. So maybe once they start shutting down the stores they may have some things at a halfway decent price.

CompUSA was big at one time, but I think they lost focus on their customers and didn't adapt to competition. Guaging from the stores I've been in, I'm not going to miss them.

And don't forget.. decided to start selling TVs.. I knew it was downhill from there.

Last thing I bought from them was my Mac G5. Long story.. but I haven't been back.. other than to return the original (after making several calls to the corporate office).

Doesn't hurt my feelings to see them leave personally.
