Was there a metor tonight? - 03-06-2007, 07:09 PM

My kids were telling me that Uranus and Neptune were falling out of the sky. I humored them, went outside, and saw a HUGE flaming red thing crashing straight down. It burnt up in about 8 mins. I have NEVER seen anything like that. Was there supposed to be anything crashing west of here tonight???

IT WAS SO COOL!!!!

I didnt have that kind of lens on my camera...and I grabbed a crappy telescope 1st. It was big - I thought it would be better. :o(

Im still wondering what it was...at the risk of sounding like a crazy nut saying they saw things falling from the sky...

I SAW A BIG BALL OF FLAME FALLING FROM THE SKY! IT WAS SO COOL!

It was probably space junk re-entering the atmosphere.. happens now and again. Watch the news tonight or call the fire department... they'll probably know.

Well, if it was flaming, it was probably a worthless topic from one of those other inferior high-flying photo forums.... ;)

It most likely never reached the ground. What you saw was a fireball meteor.

They aren't that uncommon.

could be either space junk or a meteor.

the last big flaming fire ball that was seen a few weeks ago was parts from a Russian space craft

do you remember the direction it was coming from and going to? and what part of the sky was it in (north south east or west)

James

8 minutes? Must've been one of those slow burn meteors...

All I could find is a preliminary rush transcript of CNN's American Morning with a few cryptic headlines about a mysterious fireball over West Texas, but nothing about what it was... gonna set DVR.
