I figure I'll piggy back on this thread and let you know how it goes as I go through the course. I signed up on 10/11/06 and paid 798.00 I have sent of my 1st assignment at the end of Jan. I got the 2 tests back already. 1 was a 90% the other 100%. I am still waiting to hear back on the photos themselves. At this point I have all the materials for the course. Photos for the 1st project were: to do a photo that expresses speed, a photo with selective focus, and one with a sense of distance. Here are my photos for the first assignment. So far I am enjoying the course, while some things are really good review, a few things gave me better understanding to the basics that I have struggled with, and the eye of the photographer part was inspiring and interesting. | | | | | Sponsored Links | Premium Members do not see Google advertisements. I rcvd my 1st feedback yesterday. I was pretty excited. On the the flag and the rose there wasn't to much feedback in how I could improve instead lots of compliments on how they turned out based on what the assignment called for. On the lair view photo it was suggested a WA would better provide what they were looking for as well as stopping down the aperture. Overall not bad though I was hoping they would be more critical. Well see how it goes.
Right now I am working on the section on Film. Some dry stuff.

I just completed the first section of Mod 1. I really liked the information they gave and really think they hit on some excellent points concerning the 3 main things to look for when taking a photo. I never really thought about a photo like that and it makes a lot of since. I think I will love this course.

Thanks for sharing, I've been looking into courses such as NYIP, but never knew if it was worth the money. Jumping a little off topic, do you feel like the course has offered you something more than you can get out of a book or two?
Actually, this question also applies to anyone who has taken workshops, have you found that they offer you more than what you can find in books?

Yes the info is outdated as far as photos but the principles are the same.

While the courses anywhere won't make you an expert photographer (only practice and time can do that) they give you the basis to get where you want to be. My photography has grown over the last year and will continue to grow as far as I will let it.

Thanks for the response Saundra, I've been diving into all kinda of books lately and was just afraid that lessons/workshops were just going to be a reiteration of what I've been reading. I may venture and take a chance with Betterphoto.com, I'm just cautious as to whether or not the price is justifiable. It sounds like they have served you well, I may check them out in the near future.

Shot is well thought about (all of them). This photo was specifically was concerned with selective focus. Nice job in regards to selective focus. Produced the effect by getting in close physically. References different pages and shots in the course material already read. In nice and close and lens wide open. Also contributing is the focal length of the lens (28-135) using a telephoto setting. Telephoto enhances the effect through compression of the distance between fore and back, background gets bigger, fuzzy background becomes bigger but not fuzzier thus emphasis on subject. Aperture, physical distance, and focal length are required for selective focus. Good use of color.
BTW the one I like the least and struggled with the most the infinity (the view) shot was the one they had the most negative feedback on.

Some of the stuff just gets you out there to think.
