300 - The Movie - 03-10-2007, 05:15 PM

lisa and I went and saw the movie '300' last night and I thought it was very well done...

ever since I saw the previews I knew I had to go see it...

the overall look and feel to the movie was very cool...

anyone else go see it?

if so, did it live up to your expectations?

I wanted to go see it but the line was all the way out of the theatre building... so I watched Breach instead, which was quite well done.

A Frank Miller Fan and Spartan fan, It's on my must see list for over Spring Break.

For a good contrast and also a great movie, see the first 300 Spartans also.

I saw it Friday afternoon.. IMAX was sold out all weekend!

It rocks. That's all I can say, they get to the fighting about 10 min into the film.. and it only speeds up from there.

Makes some of the fight scenes in "Gladiator" look like a sunday picnic in the park.

Actually, I just saw that this afternoon. Great followup to the movie.

What I didn't know what that 1000 Thespian soldiers actually decided to stay with the Spartans til the end.

See? Actors can be good for something....

I liked the movie, but it did not live up to my expectations.

I expected a film "better" than Sin City.

I am gonna watch it again on the IMAX tomorrow though!

It was incredible! I can't wait to go see it again. I'm very picky about movies as well, but this is one of the most visual stunning flicks I've ever watched. Considering the last 4 movies I've gone to see were Pan's Labyrinth, Children of Men, Zodiacm and 300 - I'm saying it's a good year for movies so far. *swoon*

My fave line:

Persian, "Why do you allow women to talk to men like that?"

Leonidas (interrupted), "We.."

The Queen, "Because only Spartan women give birth to *real* men..."

and THAT'S when my gf was won over by the movie I've been relentlessly talking about for 3 months...

great movie. kinda has some cheese at times but it worked there was funny parts with the cheese but most people got it. . the director of photography should win for this one. some of the cgi was over done. could tone that down and it could have been even better.

i liked it a lot, especially the elements of fantastical creatures they put in. i had the opportunity to see it with my greek friends (from greece, not greek-american) and caught them laughing at many of the american film type elaborations made in the movie. then i got to make fun of them because they hired scottish/irish actors cuz greeks are so short.... :OP

I loved it. I thought the cgi was very well done. The only thing I didn't care for was the mysticism...the ogrish faces of the elementals, the giant, and the big blobbish fellow with the blades for arms. Being that the movie was based on actual events, I would have rathered they left the fantasy aspect out of it.

Cool I guess the kids liked it - 03-12-2007, 08:55 AM

Opposing view...

I had to sit on the front row at the imax so maybe I didn't actually see the movie. I may give it another chance in a better seat.

My preliminary reaction: Both thumbs down.

No plot. No character development. Another movie with a feeble ending. It's like the producer says, "We're out of money. Wrap it up."

By way of comparison. Sam Peckinpah and Ridley Scott did much better.

"The Wild Bunch" The original. Still the best.

"Blackhawk Down" Real people. Real emotions. Real battle.

"Gladiator" A plot. Dialogue.

On second thought, I probably won't spend more money on "300." I may rent "Sin City" again.

I saw it Friday and tought it was great. I didn't see it for a history lesson or for something that rivaled movies like "The Wild Bunch," but I did see to see how they did at translating Frank Miller's novel to the screen and for the artwork, which is what this movie is, a piece of art. Seriously. I loved it, and now I can't wait for Sin City 2 to come out. Oh yeah, did anyone see the previews for Tarantino and Rodgriguez's "The Grindhouse?" That's gonna be frikkin awesome!
Jezebel-how did you like Pan's Labrynth? I wanted to see it so bad, but it didn't come here, and after "The Devil's Backbone," I'm a huge fan of Guillermo del Toro.
