The storm took down one of the server ups, so i went compusa for a replacement. That store is closing down so they have "close-up" price for everything from 10% to 30%.
I walked the whole store but can't find anything is cheaper than online or normal on sale price at any store. Total bogus!! They have everthing in full retaill price before the close-up discount. It's much much more expensive than usual.
I was looking for a Dink router, they have it for $199 - $15% off. Average Market price is $130 and CC has it for $109 instant rebate.
Even better, the so call close-up sale doesn't come with store warrany anymore. Anything that you walked out that door, you can't return it even it's defective.
So i picked up one APC ups for 15% off anyway cause i need one for tonight. To my dismay, it turned out to be an open box but they sold it as new (the battery bag inside being ripped and connected)!! I say WTF with Compusa, no wonder they are closing down. | | | | | Sponsored Links | Premium Members do not see Google advertisements. SIGN UP today and help support our community.

I used to like shopping there, but after seeing lower prices at Best buy and especially Fry's, I said forget it a long time ago. All of their sale prices require some type of rebate and even then, the prices were always too high.

Most accessories is 20-30% off . Apple overpriced stuffs hardly goes on sale anyway, so it's worth it if you need one or two.
The rest of stuffs need to be 40-50% of retail, i'm not sending back to manufacturer if something goes wrong. I could have brought them on online and got a cheaper price instead. Quote: |

Oh they will pull the mark everything way up and then do the "WERE CLOSING THE STORE" discount thing to rip off the people who don't know better and think that they will be getting a deal since the store is closing. What is sad is that a whole chain is pulling this.
I would not be surpised at all if they didn't do a sale of inventory to a "close out" company last week, look for the fine print, I would bet on this since a poster above mentions that there is no in store guarantee being offered and COMP USA will still have a couple stores open in the DFW area for a while. Usually when these happen the "close out" company will bring in a bunch of old outdated "crap" and open box stuff and shove it out the door.
I would only go there after markdowns were above 40% and then I would only buy mass produced things like CDR's, paper, ink and if I did buy something of higher value and say they had 4 examples of something I would OPEN THAT BOX UP AND INSPECT THE ITEM BIG TIME-if they scream about it then don't buy it!

I was looking for a new printer and got excited when I saw the "Store Closing" sign on the CompUSA in Webster. However, when I went in, the printer I wanted was STILL more than at some other places.
Then I asked a sales girl if anything bought there could be returned at one of the stores that is staying open, if something was to go wrong. She said NO and that all sales are final regardless if it is a brand new, unused item!
Well, I ended up getting the printer at Micro Center in the Galleria area. It was on sale there!!
Oh, and she said that the only stores that will be staying open in the greater Houston Area will be the two in the Westheimer/Galleria area.

If they close a store and use the sell-down technique of periodically increasing their markdowns, they are under scrutiny of the government and must follow special rules.
I had the chance to talk to the (now former) manager at the Albertson's on Preston Road in Frisco during their store closing sales. Albertsons had announced nationwide a reduction in stores, but was hanging on to the profitable ones. His was closing, but he was going to be transfering to a store closer to his home. Ah, the markdown sale was on! He was in a pretty good mood all in all, but growing dismayed with having to repeat the same explanation. Brisket was on sale in the national flyer in the paper that week, but not at his store. Why? By law they were prohibited from having specials. They could only follow the 10, then 20, then 30, or whatever markdown gambit. No specials, nothing going lower then coming back up higher. So, the prices start at the top and... you get the idea.
The best thing to do is go to a store closing looking for items you normally don't buy and are less subject to competition. But it won't generally last long, since it is hardly ever marked down.
And love them or leave them, we need all the CompUsa's to keep F, CC, and BB honest. They all have their weak points. Funny thing, I saw better or as-aggresive everyday prices at a local photoshop on many things. And they have much better trained staff. (Not that I need it). Go figure.

Have to wonder...I bought paper at our local one and then went and repriced it at the CC next door CompUsa had a better price with the sale, maybe it depends on the item. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
