I just switched to Farmers and my agent told me my equipment was covered up to 10% of the home value, even in my car but now that you mention it, I will be checking out the policy when it comes in. Thanks for posting.

Most homeowners policies should cover it, to a % as glassman states. But it's worth calling to verify. Even if stolen from your vehicle, it's covered by homeowners.

It's is never a good idea to cover you equipment on your homeowner policy.

Get a Personal Articles police or Inland Marine. Then you homeowners rate won't be affected by claims and you are covered in at all times and places in the U.S.

State Farm's is only good in the United States. Overseas coverage for anything is a very different kind of coverage....

I have a Hill & Usher policy... it totally rocks! Wish I had it before all my gear was stolen!

I had contacted Hill and Usher, they wanted way too much and were trying to give me more coverage than I wanted or needed.

I'm looking for something that will cover me both at home and overseas. Hill and Usher quoted me $500.00 a year for $7000.00 worth of equipment. They quoted me as if I were a business which I am not. They said individual coverage would have been more expensive.

I'm going to get my stuff insured pretty soon... but $500 a year is tough to stomach. Is Zurich much less?

I think I pay between $300-400 for my State Farm policy that covers everything including theft, loss, and damage (in the US) for all my gear. Some of those other companies are pretty steep it sounds like, I've never had to file on mine and I pray I never do.
