Need Avatar Help

How on earth do I set an image as an avatar? I know where to do it from within my profile, but I cannot seem to make it big enough to look like anything meaningful. The guidelines say that it must be 100x100 pixels in size (or less) AND less than 24.4Kb. I used PS to downsize an image and had to make it someting like 10x8 in size before the file size would come in at less than 24.4. I took a JPEG, did a <Ctrl-Alt-I> to set the image size, set the dpi at something like 50, and saved at a quality level of 4.

What am I doing wrong?

That's strange... I just saved a 100x100px JPEG quality 8 and it was 22kb in size.

What was your dpi setting?

It shouldn't matter though, dpi just sets how big (in inches) the print would be if you printed it out. It doesn't change the pixel size of the picture or the file size.

Hmmmm.... it seems to have worked this time. I made one other change - I saved it as a gif instead of a jpeg.
