Question Texas School of Photography - 03-19-2007, 10:44 AM

Hello,
In looking around on the forum I found a reference to the Texas School of Photography that's coming up in April.
I would love to attend but have some reservations.

Without sounding too corny.
How would you know if you're ready to attend classes?

I've had photo classes in High School and two semesters in College.
I feel pretty comfortable with aperture, shutter speed and ISO relationships.
I understand depth of field and contrast.
I've even taken some nice pictures but that was many moons ago.

Looking for recommendations.

Thanks

Its really up to you when you decide your ready, but from the sounds of it you have a basic understanding and should gain alot from the experience. Also, in all honesty, there have been people who didn't really know how to use their camera who have attended Texas School and still walked away knowing more than when they came in.

Now given what you do know, you might want to look into one of the beginner or intermediate classes, should you want to attend. Look for a class that interests you, and that there is still space left in (some classes sell out in seconds when registration starts), and go from there. That is the approach I took. Hope this helps some. pm if you have more questions.

You might check to see if anything you are interested in is still available.

Go their web page for online registration - on there is a pull-down menu for the classes that are left. When I just checked there were 11 classes available out of 33.

This is a "Professional" photography school and the classes are designed for those interested in a photography career either full-time or part-time. Each class is a week of intensive training in a specific area of photography. Most of the classes will have some time and material devoted to business and marketing.

If you think you would like to begin a part-time photography career then you are a definite candidate for the school. A great place to start would be Steve Kozak or Doug Box, but their classes are sold out. Of the ones left, Michael Redford or Tim Walden and Ann Monteith would be good. Both will be heavy in business and marketing.

Course 31 ~ The Art and Business of Portrait Photography
Tim and Beverly Walden ~ Ann Monteith

Looks good.
I see what you mean Don. Most of the course descriptions mention the business side of things as well as photo technique etc..

Sounds right up my alley.
I would love to have a part time photography business. I've got LOTS of spare time.
