It really peevs me to know how much manpower was wasted on those 2 girls from Terrell that were "KIDNAPPED". I understand that they had to do it that way because if indeed they really were kidnapped it was appropriate steps for law enforcement. But we were all very skeptical here at work at the validity of this claim from the beginning. What the hell were they thinking??? And to top it off, the interview from Mesquite PD said that they were glad they were home safe, they had cooperated and that the case is closed!!! They should be able to charge them SOMETHING for resources. I guess I feel so strongly because I'm so used to the abuse of the 911 system.
Ok, I'm through.

I work at Terrell High School and we were all very worried about our student and her cousin (a former student). It is disappointing to find out the story was a hoax but I can't say it is surprising since none of the details were adding up. The people commenting about the situation in the Terrell paper have said a lot of things (link below) and these girls will forever have their reputations tarnished by their actions the past few days. My grandmother used to always tell me that "what crawls down the devil's back, crawls up the devil's belly." I suppose the girls will find out how true this with this whole mess and its aftermath. I would think that there will be some kind of charges filed eventually, and the girls (not their families) should be held responsible for the time, manpower, and other resources wasted on their behalf. Of course, living with the guilt of the drama they have caused will be a harsh punishment in and of itself.

I have no idea why, but I wondered about this from the first time I heard it. Then especially when the stuff about the cell phone calls came out. Though when I heard about the bruises and stuff I thought I was wrong.

Some people go to great lengths to show their stupidity. I remember a quote from one of the moms in the DMN. Something to the effect of "She's a GOOD girl and would NEVER run off. I remember when she was 10 minutes late one time and she called......"Well, those parents need to be slapped with a dose of reality.

I did not hear this story here in Arizona, but we have similar incidents from time to time. Usually it is frustrating, and we ask the famous Dr. Phil line, "What were you thinking?"

I am a school teacher full time. Unfortunately, no one is (or is allowed) to teach reality skills to students or hold them accountable. So kids are growing up with skills that are deceptive and rooted in the moment because everyone requires us to avoid having them exprience shame at any cost. No one can administer consequences because that seems to equal punishment and punishment damages the ego and self-esteem. As a result, we have people doing this kind of thing and getting off scott free. When it occurs in the highest levels of government, and perpetrators there are let off, why would our children think it is wrong.

I reckon that the girls and their parents have already had to stand up and face reality. One cannot eternally avoid shame, guilt, consequences or accountability. One can only attempt to avoid them.

I believe that it is time to bring everyone back to reality. If you do something worthy of any of these results: shame, guilt, consequences, or accountability, let them arise normally. I can tolerate some flexibility in these areas, but it is time for us to start having individuals or groups that make choices such as these accountable in ways that may not have to be monetary but could involve repayment, apologies, acknowledged shame, etc.

Thanks Rusty.
There has been a great public outcry to hold these girls somewhat responsible for their actions. And yes, one of the fathers made the news for an apology. He was ashamed and embarrassed at the actions of his daughter. He did the right thing, too bad his kid didn't. I'm sure she'll be grounded for life. I don't think they'll have any monetary responsibilities but a great deal of community service would be beneficial.

Well I am glad that they are going to do something to them. What a couple of morons.

But you, as selfish and bad as this was I hope they don't get jail time. Not that they don't deserve it. But if those two idiots are taking up beds in the jail that just means they are going to have to release someone else who probably did something much worse early.

And I don't think fines are the answer. Thier parents would just have to pay those. I think they should both get like 200 hours of community service. Better yet, take the cost of the fines, the cost of the search manpower and double it. Then divide it by minimum wage after tax and that should be how many hours they have to clean litter on roads and public bathrooms.

Hey that is a pretty good idea on determining time. I am going to write my congressman. No wait, I hate that guy.

Prophet out.
