Sorry to hi jack the thread....Austin is AWESOME!!!! I lived there for 12 years and miss it everyday. Dallas is too pretentious for it's own good.

Breezy~the Hill Country is a good place for retirement if you're thinking of retiring in TX.

I actually grew up down in Beeville, and graduated from from high school there. My dad was stationed at NAS Chase Field and then NAS CC. My parents are still there and my brother is down by Kingsville. I actually would love to move back down that way, but my husband hates it down there, so for now I am stuck in Central Texas.

One of the reasons I left Corpus was its backwards mentality for civic progress in general - although that seems to be changing a little bit as of late (there was a group known as the 'aginners' as they were against anything that would raise taxes -- ANYTHING -- they were mostly retirees), and the "them vs. us" thing going on there. Don't want to really talk to much on that, because I'd get this post locked... Just a lot of division within the community.

That, and there was only one camera store in town.

I've only been to Corpus a few times but I really enjoyed the people when I was there. And no, Corpus isn't really a big town. It's a good size.

Thanks I will keep it in mind.
Dh has gotten some state certified schools with the CCPD that will follow him after the Navy, so He "thinks" TX may be an option for us but I am not sold on it yet lol. Will definately remember hill country though.
We actually discussed Amarillo, but we have never been there so I have no clue lol.

I completely agree.
it is still NO CHANGE.
They need something to bring people here. As of now if I lived in SA or something I would NOT drive her for anything. This is a pretty broing place to live lol.

As for camera store yeap still only one they did have 2 locations and closed one of them.

When we retired from the Navy this Yankee from NY came to San Angelo. Love Texas. It has it's good and bad like anywhere else but as the saying goes "I wasn't born in Texas but I got here as fast as I could".

I went from upstate NY to Monterey, CA for a year then here for school. I was in awe at the courtesy and respect these folks showed us. It's not quite the same as it was in 1970 but it' still the best base-community relations I've ever experienced.

Were about 100 miles from anywhere - sure beats living in the Baltimore-Washington D.C. area. Country boy at heart.

I've always thought the Baltimore and DC area was absolutely beautiful, I'd move there in an instant if I could . I've always considered Texas to be pretty boring and unattractive looking overall. I guess it just shows: different strokes for different folks!

With all the help I've received on here, I'm just happy to be able to give a little back.

Thank you all so much.
And I definately agree that differnt strokes for differnt folks.
I too loved the DC area but I don't want to "live" there either, even though it is a possibility that we are considering lol, atleast it too will only be 3 years.
I haven't found that "retirement" place yet.
And there are parts of TX that I really liked but I haven't "lived" in any of those lol. I think that makes all of the difference
