I used to work in Lufkin awhile back. It's not much to look at, but there's a zoo there. To be honest, I can't come up with anything good about that town, except there's woods all around it. I'd recommending going a little north and hanging out in Nacogdoches instead. Here's a thread on a few things to see there. If the paper mill in Lufkin is still in operation, then just about anywhere else will smell better too.

I went to school in Nac, but I did spend some time in Lufkin. There are lots of birding trails and an azalea trail that starts in Grace Dunne Park. Ellen Trout Zoo and Lake, Lake Sam Rayburn and Angelina and Neches River, and the Texas Forestry Museum (I've never been so I can't say what it's like) are very nice too. Have fun!

Any place is a good place to shoot. What counts is not the place but the imagination...

I grew up in the Jasper area (which is east of Lufkin) and you can always find great pictures in the Sam Rayburn area. I've also been to the Lufkin Zoo, but it was many years ago, so can't give you a current opinion.

If you go to the visitors bureau, I'm sure they can tell you things around town to take pics. Or go to a local cafe in town, and ask someone there. Never hurts to check with locals.

You might also get lucky and the Dogwoods & Azalias might be either beginning to bloom, or in full bloom. Very pretty mixed in with the trees.
