Goofy pet behavior - share yours - 04-02-2007, 03:27 PM

Ever since we moved last fall, Jazz has an odd new habit. She goes in the closet and plays with my husband’s duffel bag. He keeps in on top of a box of junk. Jazz goes in the closet at least once a week, drags it to the floor, and plays with it. He puts it back on top of the box and this process repeats. The other day she played with his shoes. I think she just picked them up or pawed at them. She hardly ever hurts anything, just moves it around. In our last house she made a habit of moving the bath rug to the next room. I’ve heard of people calling their dogs collectors (taking objects to their bed) or redecorators (moving random items for reasons we cannot determine).

She also has a thing for orange juice. Jazz does not lick anyone, and one day I was sitting on the floor drinking a juice box. Jazz came over and sniffed the box and licked me once right on the tip of my nose! A few other times I’ve had juice and she licks this box a couple of times. This is very odd for a dog that will barely lick your hand even if it’s covered in something tasty.

I think the cutest thing she has ever done was at my parents house on Christmas Eve a couple years ago. Jazz loves stuffies. My mom had a musical reindeer stuffed animal that was sitting on the floor. Jazz went over to it and very gently picked it up (I just watched to see what she would do) and carried it over to my mom as if to ask permission that she could have it! I wish I had taken a picture.

Awwww...such a gentle dog...
My Dapper does this wild, goofy trick:
takes a ball with attached, looped handle,
shakes the handle part violently back and forth,
then twirls in 360's wildly shaking the poor ball to no end

I have a 6 1/2 month old mastiff/boxer pup that snores ALMOST as loud as I do. Does that count? Oh, and he refuses to eat his food in the morning, unless I stand next to him while he eats...Oh, and he likes to take my slippers and lay on 'em. Doesn't chew 'em...just takes it to wherever...yard, doghouse, garage and lays on 'em.

I have a cat that sits on the toilet when you shower and waits for you to rub your wet hands over him, the wetter the better. He can be soaking wet and still be purring. He also takes up residence on the back of the coach and reaches out to "grab" any one who walks buy to pet him. But then he will also come and suck on my little finger like a baby sucks on their thumb, he was bottle fed.

I have another cat who has a shoe and sock fetish. She bury her head in a shoe or roll around on a sock.

I have weird cats, but I wouldn't trade them for anything. Well maybe a few L lenses, on second thought not even for L lenses.

Whenever we get a side of beef processed we always bring the dogs a treat home, usually a few bones and some scraps. The dashounds just take the scraps and go to work but Muttly , my mastiff, get one piece at a time and takes it to the back of the yard and eats it, then gets another peice and repets the process. It's not like the midgits are going to steal his scraps since he out wieghs them by about 150lbs so I don't know why he does this, and it's only with the scraps, not the bones.

My dog Bear loves to hug me. He's a small dog, a rat terrier pomeranian mix if you can imagine, and every day when i come come he crawls up into my lap, lays his head on my chest and his paw on my arm and hugs me for as long as I will let him. He also hugs me at bedtime. It's sooooo adorable. This is him...not in hug mode.

If you say bang to my cat he falls over playing dead so you will rub his tummy.
My dog will sing to the Eyes of Texas. He also has his own float when we go to the lake. His float must go in the water before anyone else gets in. It's so pathatic that we named the boat after him.

my cat is obsessed with white socks.
he climbs into the dirty clothes laundry basket and burrows to find dirty white socks.. and when we return home each day.. the first thing we do is go room to room and collect the dirty socks.
he likes to leave anywhere from 1-10 a day for us in random places.

and when his food/water bowls are empty.. he goes into the bathroom and gets a dirty rag or handtowel and drags it on top of his bowl to let us know it is empty.

Our Boston Terrier Lucy lies on the couch or chair with one of her soft or tennis balls in her mouth, eventually falling asleep and keeping it in her mouth the whole time - even while sleeping See 1st picture.
Then when you scratch her belly she does this thing half growling, half yawning with her mouth. See 2nd picture.
She is just crazy.

Oh I've got several

Woody the cat - - where do I begin. He wore wire rim glasses, a bandana and a small cowboy hat around our office. Would freak out the new employees. (the hat was one of those hanging air freshners for cars). Woody would fetch. Loved to ride in a bicycle basket around the block. Would grab a bag of oreos or bread off the counter at night and take into the living room and open them up and start munching away. Loved to eat cantelope and potato chips. He would go dumpster diving in the garbage disposal at night to see if there was anything in there he wanted. Would come when you called him. He loved to ride in the car, would sit behind your neck or in the back window. Generally he was in his carrier for safety, but now and then we would break the rules..... When we knew he was dying of kidney failure and only had days to live, we took him for a car ride and went to the park sitting there with the windows open...... hmmmmmm memories. He liked french fries. I'll tell you he was as close to being a dog as any cat could get - - he did use a catbox though rather than going outside..... He was a one of a kind personality. Oh, and one FINAL priceless trick of his.... he would open the lower cabinets in the bathroom and grab a tampon out of the box and carry it into the middle of the living room and leave it there..... how embarrasing if you had company visiting. We really do miss him and his animated habits......

Toby - - would find his way under the comforter after we made the bed in the morning. We could come home later to find a 'lump' in the middle of our bed. Toby sleeping. Would also hop into the jacuzzi tub and wait for us to drip the water for drinking. He taught this trick to other cats in the family, so they all do it now.

Joe - the cat we had when I was growing up .... loved to be vacumned.... was pretty convenient during shedding season. He tolerated a pet white mouse and bird to sit on his back. He let us girls dress him up in doll clothes.

That's it for now - - maybe more later as I remember them.

Fun little topic - - thanks Suzy for starting this one.

Our 3 year old golden retriever, Bella, does some pretty funny things. I can fold up her leash and give it to her and she'll walk herself with the leash in her mouth (I have yet to get a photo of this). She does this happy growl sound whenever we get home from being away for a while. She will never, ever greet us without one of her toys in her mouth. She is a retriever through and through and we love her to death.

My dog jumps about 3 feet into the air.

When I was little we had a husky, he did lots of strange things. My parents used to leave a sink of dishes that would be clean when they returned. They didn't know why, so they peeked thru a window one day and saw him take them all out and lay them on the floor, lick them off, flip them over to do the other side, then PUT THEM BACK!
