LCD! Mainly because with my eye sight I can't tell the difference between the two or at least not enough for the extra $$$ the plasma cost. I love HDTV !!! With the HDTV and suround sound system it's almost like being at the track when I watch the races on t.v.

If you have room, Rear Projection DLP. They can be repaired. The Plasma and LCD screens can't be fixed if they become damaged. At least that's what I was told when I was shopping. Nearly all of the sales people I spoke with in several different stores said they would by Rear Projections for themselves. Mitsubishi seemed to be the brand of choice. All tho I Am not totally satisfied with the one I bought. Thank gosh I bought a service contract, which I normally never do.

I've got a 45" Samsung plasma hanging on my bedroom wall. Love it. Haven't studied the differences between the two. I can assume they both have their pro's and con's. I just got what I liked.

I have a 57" 1080p DLP set (Mitsubishi 732 series), and am extremely happy with it. Rear Projection definitely gives you the most picture for your money. The new 1080p DLP sets are really incredible. Once you get into the 50-70" range the plasmas get really expensive especially for 1080p. And with plasma you have to worry about burn-in as well as glare on the glass screen.

I would also recommend that if you decide to go with a flat-panel display (either plasma or LCD), that you find out what the native panel resolution is. Some of them have strange resolution with non-square pixels and have to scale the input. I wouldn't want anything less than a native panel resolution of 1920x1080.

We love our LCD's (28" in our bedroom and a 52" in my dh's "cave"). You don't have the glare problem (especially in a smaller room - the cave is only 10' deep with windows along the wall). But, either way you will be happy.

I ended up putting our Sony 50" Grand Wega in my shop for watching Speed Channel and Car DVD's after buying a 46" Sony LCD. The projection TV has a great picture but if you setting to the side the picture starts to fade out. Also the LCD shows a better picture when the drapes are open or the room is real bright. The projection works perfect in my shop especially since it replaces a 13" .
The LCD and Plasma's have come way down in price. I remember calling to get a price on a 40" Plasma when they first came out and it was more than my first car cost! Something like $12,000 !!! Now you can get a really nice one for under $2000.
Now all I need to do is start adding to my movie collection since we bought a blue disc player, got a total of two movies for it . The blue disc is like comparing a VHS to a DVD. I love the picture they give and i'm not sure if the sound is different or not but it seems like they sound better through our suround sound than the regular DVD's do, that could just be me though?

My friend owns a electronic store and said he was at a expo. Every company that had HD tv's set up were running PS3's for HD dvd. It's the cheapest way to go and well you get a pretty sweet video game system to go with it. I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure it plays both blue ray and HD DVD. $700 for the PS3 and $1000+ for the competition.

I would say LCD. I got a 46" Sony LCD a few months ago and love it.

the LCD will not degrade the picture just because the sun came up or you turned a light on in the room.

the DLP and Plasma TV's I have seen do not have a good picture from all angles in any light situation. they get dark around the edges.

Brue ray vs HD DVD..... Wait.. WAIT.. WAIT....

the quality is virtually no different between the 2. only the capacity of Blue Ray is greater.

they say this Holiday season will determine the format winner, and we should see lots of HD players under $500 (or even under $400) by the end of hte year.

I am holding out until next year when the price falls below $200. the HTIB an box I got will up sample regular DVD's to 1080i and out put a very nice image.

Apparently Bryan's buddy is right. Also... LG has come out with a dual version... fro $1,199.00. That alone will make me pick a format though it's only $200 more than Sony's BlueRay player...

Just yesterday I bought a 60" Sony rear projection LCD.

KDS-60A2020 on sale at Fry's for $2289. Hard to get close to that price in any other technology. Personally the 3LCD WEGA in even 1080i looks excellent. Black levels are solid. I watched the Stars and Masters today in a bright open room and it was excellent. The three year old LG that it replaced pales in comparison even when it was new.

As always YMMV.

Plasma....faster refresh rate, better colors, better blacks, no screen door effect as with Rear Projection & LCD projection...you can get a 42" Plasma for $1,100

LCD is best for < 40"
Plasma best for 40-53

Projection best for 60"+

But its really how much you want to spend and what looks great to your eyes....

Ditto. If you watch faster moving sports, Plasmas are going to be your best bet. LCDs and projection based ghost a bit and do not look as good sitting fairly close. I think what is mentioned here is a very good guideline.

Having said that.. I have a CRT based HDTV that looks very good, will probably outlast all the others, but weighs a ton.. I also have several LCD TVs.. My next will more than likely be a plasma. I like the DLP's, but do not like the depth needed (albeit, not near as deep as my CRT)...
